CLONING THE REPLAY LITE

If you have flashed a box and set up the favourites in order you can clone the data on this box to another.

Simply plug in the set up (master) box – attach a null modem cable to the back. Take the new box, put it next to the master, plug in the null modem lead into the back of that, THEN FINALLY plug the power into the second unit. It will then start cloning from the master. When the red/green light starts blinking very rapidly – it’s cloned (

Remember to remove the null modem lead before re-booting the newly cloned box! (Or it will start the cloning process again!)

COM Port (for Null modem lead on back of unit)

Master (Already set up)

Switched on FIRST with cable attached to the socket at the back

New unit

(to be cloned from MASTER unit above) – Null modem cable in back. Put the power lead in LAST (after the MASTER unit has Power and Null Modem in!)

Clone will start as soon as the power goes into the new unit. Remember to WAIT until the Green/Red Light changes from a slow blink to very fast. (

Fixing the Replay Lite “Red LED” Only Problem

Do Not Worry – Your Unit is Not Dead – Simply Missing Software

This problem occurs for a few reasons:

1. By FAR the most common is when cloning – the power to the cloned unit is pulled out BEFORE the software has actually written to the box OR you’ve uploaded software from your PC and re-booted the box ‘before’ the software has finalised writing.

2. The rest are technical and can generally be fixed by the same method below.

BOTTOM LINE IS – YOU’VE GOT A BOX WHICH IS NOW MISSING THE ESSENTIAL ‘BOOT LOADER’ SOFTWARE – IN PLAIN SPEAK – IT’S SIMPLY MISSING A BIT OF CODE THAT NEEDS PUT BACK

CLONING WILL NOT SORT THIS PROBLEM – YOU’LL NEED A PC

OK – LETS FIX THIS RED LED PROBLEM

We’re going to Re-Install the ‘original’ working software first

(it’s a two part process)

What you need before you can fix the unit..

1. You need a PC – preferably a standard Tower system – as this has the Com Port on the back (9 pin Male – D shape which is placed between the two units)

2. You need a Null Modem (RS232) Cable

3. You’ll need three files (all of which can be found in many places but currently available here – though may also be bundled with this guide)

4. STB Client V5.32 (the program that puts the software onto your Replay unit)

5. Old Software Version 7.42A (Which has the ‘missing’ bit you need)

6. Updated software – which once the RED Eye LED is fixed – you simply upgrade your unit to the latest software at 05/2008 Version 9.10 or 9.13 (both cover all UK Cable suppliers as well as ‘Chorus’ in Ireland)

NOW YOU’VE DOWNLOADED THE STUFF YOU NEED

Extract the files and put them in a new folder (in Windows XP right mouse click on the file you have just downloaded, choose the Extract All option and allow it to unravel them into a new folder with the same name as the original file. So you’ll now have a small program called STB Client, a file ending with the letter ‘A’ and the current version of the software that needs to be installed on the box (we’ll deal with that once the Red Led is Green!)

Open the STB Client Software

WITHOUT THE REPLAY POWERED UP – USE THE UPGRADE SOFTWARE BUTTON

IGNORE ANY WARNINGS LIKE THIS

[pic]

JUST OK THEM AND WHEN ASKED POINT THE PROGRAM AT EITHER THE 738A or 742A Software (both will work)

[pic]

As soon as you’ve started the update on the STB Client Link – simply insert the power into the new/channel lacking box..

*** REMEMBER – although the STB Client looks finished sending the software the box is not fully coded yet. It is ONLY when the LED starts to toggle between the Red/Green very quickly (and stays that way) that the box can be unplugged and tested. (The latest version of STB Client with the new files do say – writing flash file – but it’s only on screen for a few seconds – if in doubt – WAIT!

WHAT SHOULD I SEE ??

As soon as the power goes into the ‘new’/channel lacking box – you’ll see the LED on the front starting to toggle between green & red – wait a minimum of 5 minutes or more before unplugging either unit – even if you think it’s been flashed successfully wait! If it doesn’t work 1st time – do it again - it WILL work. Remember that the box does take a few seconds to boot – give it 10 seconds to make sure the LED is solid green – test by switching off/on with the remote.

NOW I’VE GOT THE GREEN LIGHT BACK

Use STB Client to upgrade your box to V9.10 (or the latest software available) – this time you can choose the Setup Com option before upgrading as this will stop you getting the warning message.

Your box is now ready for use (

Backing up your Channel Data on the Lite

Surprisingly few people seem to know that you can copy off the channel lists on the Replay Lite to PC. Again, very simple and handy as a backup.

Using the same STB Client software as before – simply attached your unit but this time choose the ‘Read User Data’ option – you’ll be asked to name you file (call it something easy like channel_todays_date).

PS – The channel data on the Lite is in ‘text’ format – you may find you can’t view the file after reading. Simply add .txt to the end of the file

(i.e. channels_010508.txt)

Now there’s no need to post another bloody question about this again!!
