Dineen Pashoukos Wasylik Certified as an Expert

in Intellectual Property Law by the Florida Bar

Tampa, Florida – Tampa attorney Dineen Pashoukos Wasylik is among the small handful of lawyers who earned Florida Bar Board Certification in the area of intellectual property law in 2009. Ms. Wasylik’s certification cements Conwell Kirkpatrick’s position as the premier intellectual property boutique firm in Tampa.

“We are very pleased that the Florida Bar has recognized Dineen’s extensive knowledge and experience in intellectual property law,” said G. Donovan Conwell, Jr., one of the firm’s founding partners and a founding member of the Florida Bar’s Intellectual Property Certification Committee.

Ms. Wasylik joins Conwell Kirkpatrick founding partner G. Donovan Conwell, Jr. and partner Jim Matulis as board certified in intellectual property law. With Ms. Wasylik’s certification, Conwell Kirkpatrick has more attorneys board certified in intellectual property law than any other law firm in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area.

Board certification evaluates attorney’s special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice. Certified attorneys are the only Florida lawyers allowed to identify themselves as specialists or experts. Certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of the competency and experience of attorneys in areas of law approved for certification by the Florida Supreme Court. Only approximately 4,300 of Florida’s 87,000 lawyers are board certified. The minimum standards for certification include:

• A minimum of five years of law practice

• Substantial involvement in the field of law for which certification is sought

• A passing grade on the examination required of all applicants

• Satisfactory peer review assessment of competence in the specialty field as well as character, ethics and professionalism in the practice of law

• Satisfaction of the certification area’s continuing legal education requirements.

Board Certification is valid for five years. The attorney during that time must continue to practice law and attend Florida Bar approved continuing legal education courses. Recertification requirements are similar to those for initial certification. Not all qualified lawyers are certified, but those who are board certified have taken the extra steps to have their competence and experience evaluated.

There are only 105 lawyers in the state who are board certified in intellectual property law, and of those, only 18 are in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. Intellectual property law includes trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, trade dress, and unfair competition.

Dineen Pashoukos Wasylik is a graduate of Cornell University, and a cum laude graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to joining Conwell Kirkpatrick, she practiced intellectual property litigation at Fowler White Boggs Banker in Tampa and at Wiley Rein & Fielding in Washington, D.C. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Susan H. Black of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Jacksonville, Florida.
