FLORIDA AGRICULTURAL OVERVIEW Florida's 47,400 farms and ranches, utilized 9.70 million acres, and continue to produce a wide variety of safe and dependable food products. From the citrus groves and the nurseries in central and southern Florida, to the vegetables in various regions around the State, to the cattle and calves throughout the State, these farms and ranches provide Florida with a large and stable economic base. In 2020 Florida ranked: First in the United States in the value of production oranges, sugarcane, fresh market tomatoes, and watermelons. Second in value of production for strawberries. Florida commodities ranked third nationally in cabbage, grapefruit, and fresh market sweet corn. Florida commodities ranked fourth nationally in peanuts. In 2020, in terms of agricultural value of production, Florida accounted for: 64 percent of the total U.S. value for fresh market tomatoes ($463 million) 51 percent of the total U.S. value for oranges ($867 million, packing house door equivalent) 45 percent of the total U.S. value for fresh market bell peppers ($235 million) 33 percent of the total U.S. value for grapefruit ($65.2 million, packing house door equivalent) 27 percent of the total U.S. value for watermelons ($157 million) 24 percent of the total U.S. value for fresh market sweet corn ($137 million) 12 percent of the total U.S. value for cabbage ($49.9 million) 11 percent of the total U.S. value for strawberries ($240 million)
9 percent of the total U.S. value for peanuts ($114 million). Florida citrus growers in 2019-2020 produced 67.4 million boxes of oranges (95 percent of which were used for orange juice) and 4.85 million boxes of grapefruit (56 percent of which were used for grapefruit juice). All citrus fruit on-tree sales exceeded $729 million. Florida growers harvested vegetables for fresh market, potatoes, strawberries, and blueberries from 178,900 acres in 2020. The value of vegetable crops was $1.39 billion. Florida ranks second to California in the total value of published fresh market vegetable production. Milk in 2020 produced cash receipts of $513 million, while cattle and calves produced $475 million in cash receipts. On January 1, 2021 there were 1.69 million head of cattle on farms and ranches in Florida, including 929,000 head of beef cows and 111,000 head of milk cows. Poultry farms generated $143 million from broilers and produced 65.2 million broilers. Poultry data for layers and eggs are not available due to confidentiality restrictions.

Florida Cash Receipts - 2019 The Economic Research Service, (ERS), USDA, reports that receipts from Florida agricultural products in 2019 totaled to $7.80 billion. This is up 7 percent from last year's 7.31 billion.
All crops accounted for 80.8 percent of total cast receipts. As in previous years, the leading crop commodities were floriculture (13.7 percent), oranges (13.4 percent), sugarcane for sugar and seed (7.3 percent), and tomatoes for fresh market (5.5 percent). The leading livestock commodities were dairy products (6.6 percent of all cash receipts), cattle and calves (6.1 percent), and poultry and eggs (3.4 percent).
