CLASS CODE: 8725 PAY GRADE: 018 CLASS TITLE: SAFETY AND HEALTH SPECIALIST ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work interpreting, explaining and enforcing departmental safety program policies, state laws, and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Conducts unannounced inspections of facilities to determine compliance with Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations.Conducts on-site evaluations of agency worksites to identify violations of safety and health regulations and provide recommendations and technical assistance in their correction.Prepares reports of violations or other findings and establishes abatement dates for their correction.Conducts follow-up inspections to verify satisfactory correction of violations.Investigates job related vehicle injuries and accidents, and prepares reports of the circumstances contributing to the injury/accident and identifies any violations of federal, state, or agency regulations.Researches applicable OSHA regulations, standards of the American National Standards Institute, the National Electrical Code, National Fire Code, and other recognized authorities, and provides interpretations.Assists in the development of, and conducts specialized safety and health training programs for employers.Maintains records to determine the effectiveness of safety and health training programs.Provides technical and administrative assistance to other safety and health program personnel.Performs related work as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class.
