CLASS CODE: 4303 PAY GRADE: 011 CLASS TITLE: LIBRARY TECHNICAL ASSISTANT I ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is paraprofessional library work performing routine bibliographic searches in a specific area of cataloging and/or acquisition; preparing cards and processing materials for collections; serving the users of public service areas of the library; and/or performing circulation functions according to established procedures.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Edits bibliographic records, including catalog cards regarding format and spelling.Processes to be acquired and newly acquired materials under both approval and regular ordering programs, including checking invoices, routine bibliographic verification of selection requests and maintenance of on-order files.Maintains statistical records for an acquisition program.Processes materials into collections.Makes up temporary book or catalog cards for materials.Maintains assigned collection card catalog, shelf list or data base.Assists in circulation, information, reference, and microtext activities.Works a circulation desk at a library on shift or daily a basis.Serves the users of public service areas by advising them of the use and location of materials in the area.Maintains assigned materials collections.Performs circulation/booking duties for non-print materials including patron registration, checkout and checkin, reserving and recalling titles, and compiling overdue notices.Receives and processes serials, periodicals and journals on current subscriptions and claims or reorders lost or damaged items.Processes interlibrary loan transactions; locates copies of titles requested; lends titles requested by other institutions; and maintains special borrower files.Performs related work as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class.
