CLASS CODE: 3508 PAY GRADE: 016 CLASS TITLE: INSURANCE SPECIALIST I ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work in the evaluation of qualification of representatives in the areas which do not require insurance courses or experience to qualify to take state examinations such as warranties, and personal accident insurance; or examination and licensing of companies and individuals for the manufacture, distribution and use of explosives and installation, service and inspection of fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, and engineered fire suppression systems; or licensing of all companies and/or individuals in the State of Florida who inspect power boilers and high pressure, high temperature water boilers; low pressure steam or vapor heating boilers in public assembly locations; or examination and licensing of companies performing liquefied petroleum gas operations in Florida, or evaluating applications for a certificate of authority or permission to transact business pursuant to the Florida Insurance Code.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Consults with service officers on complaints against licensees to determine if violations of insurance laws have occurred, or with investigators on complaints against licensees to determine if violations of explosive,fire prevention, and control laws, and state boiler code have occurred; or with liquefied petroleum gas safety inspectors to determine if violations of liquefied petroleum gas have occurred.Prepares and revises qualification and licensing application forms.Assists higher level Insurance Specialists in the more complex areas of insurance, laws and regulations; or assists supervisor in the more complex areas of explosive and fire prevention laws and regulations; and state boiler code or assist supervisor in the more complex areas of liquefied petroleum laws and regulations.Corresponds with insurance companies relative to an agent's previous license record, qualifications and current license status when previously licensed in another state prior to applying for a Florida resident license.Assists in the preparation of technical examinations in the areas of explosives and fire protection or liquefied petroleum gas.Processes reinstatements, corrections and license modifications.Reviews class schedules, certificates of completion and instructor approval forms.Approves tax refunds for applications withdrawn by a company and for fees previously paid when a license cannot be issued.Determines an applicant's qualification for licensing and for examination by reviewing such factors as age, character, experience, residency, schooling and employment.Corresponds with insurance companies and agents regarding insurance requirements.Corresponds with licensees, city and county building officials, law enforcement, or fire services regarding license status, license requirements, examination requirements, and insurance requirements.Monitors licensing program in the area of explosive, fire equipment and fire suppression systems and boiler inspectors or liquefied petroleum gas dealers or installers.Recalls examinations from service field offices as required.Prepares data collection using mathematical and basic accounting analyses of applicants' piles financial data and statistics for the publication of various reports.Responsible for the compilation of data collection forms and verifies the accuracy of computer outputs for special reports.Responsible for the tracking of field examiners company audits and company billings.Prepares and revises qualification and licensing application forms. Assists in implementing and maintaining the department's company directory, data base system and automated application municates with department and industry personnel during the application process.Performs related work as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Note: The knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) identified in this class specification represent those needed to perform the duties of this class. Additional knowledge, skills and abilities may be applicable for individual positions in the employing agency.) Knowledge of the principles of insurance and risk management or policies pertaining to the fire equipment, explosives, fire suppression, state boiler code and liquefied petroleum gas industries.Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.Ability to assist in preparing technical essay examinations.Ability to grade and review examinations.Ability to review and make decisions pertaining to the qualifications of applicants.Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data.Ability to prepare correspondence.Ability to prepare and revise insurance forms.Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.Ability to communicate effectively.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional experience in insurance or evaluating licensing procedures and examinations for explosives, fire equipment, fire suppression systems or boiler inspections or liquefied petroleum gas pletion of the Department of Insurance's Insurance Specialist I training program can substitute for the required experience.Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.EFFECTIVE: 5/6/1988 ................
