How to Renew Your Driver's License in Florida
Eligibility Check Driver's License Renewal
Before you can renew your license, you must meet certain eligibility requirements based on your application method.
You are not eligible to renew at all if you currently owe fines or have open traffic tickets.
Online
To renew your license online, you must meet the following requirements:
You have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) registered with the DMV. You are younger than 80 years of age.
You are not replacing your license with an ID card. You are a U.S. citizen or lawful resident.
You have a valid non-commercial license that is not temporary, suspended, cancelled or revoked.

You have a license that is already REAL IDcompliant. You have not used the online system to renew any other time.
In Person You may be required to renew your license in person if you:
Are 80 years of age or older and need to take the vision exam. Renewed online once already. Have an expired driver's license. Want an updated photo. Have legally changed your name since the last renewal. Do not have a REAL ID-compliant license.

What You Need Your SSN Your current driver's license A valid credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express or Discover) for the $48 renewal fee, plus a $2 online convenience fee
Steps to Take 1. Visit the GoRenew online system and
enter your last name and date of birth to access your record.
2. Verify your identification and contact information.
3. Select "Renew your license."
4. Provide your credit card information.

5. Provide your email address. 6. Receive a payment confirmation by email. 7. Receive your renewed license in the mail
in 7 to 10 business days. 8. Destroy your previous license.
In-Person Driver's License Renewal
What You Need Your current driver's license Your renewal notice, if available Proof of citizenship, residency, identity and SSN, if applying for a REAL ID Payment for the $48 renewal fee (Check with your local office for acceptable payment methods.)

Steps to Take 1. Find a local driver's license center near
you and set up an appointment, if available. 2. Provide your identification, current driver's license, renewal notice and proof of citizenship, if applicable. 3. Complete the vision exam. 4. Get your photo taken. 5. Submit the $48 renewal fee. 6. Receive your updated license. 7. Surrender your previous license.

If you attempt to renew your driver's license after the license expiration date (midnight on your birthday), you will be charged an additional $15 late renewal fee.
