Dear New Seminole,

Florida State University is pleased to present the 11th annual Service Leadership Seminar, being held

August 20-24, 2012. The seminar is designed to give participants an introduction to service-oriented leadership through small group discussions, interactive workshops, a challenge course, community service at local Tallahassee nonprofit agencies, and more. The program is designed for students with multiple areas of involvement, allowing them to explore areas of involvement at the collegiate level.

By participating in this energetic and dynamic seminar, participants will gain critical skills that will help them create positive, sustainable change in a wide array of organizations at Florida State University and within the Tallahassee community. They will also have the opportunity to meet like-minded freshmen and prominent student leaders and staff.

SLS is a four-and-a-half day program beginning on Monday morning. From Monday morning until Friday afternoon, SLS will provide participants with all meals. Though the scheduled move-in date for students living on campus is not until Wednesday, August 24, we have worked with University Housing to arrange early move-in options for SLS participants. We will inform participants of these arrangements upon acceptance into the program. SLS is not able to coordinate with any off-campus housing regarding early move-in.

Students interested in being a participant of this fun, inclusive, community-based seminar should complete the attached participant application and return it to the Center for Leadership and Civic Education. The completed application, including short essays, must be received by July 6, 2012 via mail, e-mail, or fax. Students will be notified in mid-July via e-mail about their application status.

We invite you to visit our website at to learn more about SLS. If you have any questions about the seminar, please contact the SLS co-coordinators via e-mail at SLScoordinator@. Thank you for your interest, and we wish you the best of luck!

With all the very best,

Virginia Liddell and Jordan Hopkins
