STATEMENT OF NEEDGENERAL: The Physical Therapy Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitative Service at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd, Tampa, Florida 33612, has a requirement for (2) two virtual reality treadmills and (1) one body weight supported mobility device. Both equipment will be used to all safe ambulation with a single clinician while incorporating evidence-based motor learning principles to regain mobility and enhance patient care efficaciously. This is a brand name or equal must meet salient characteristics listed below.SCOPE: One virtual reality treadmill and the body weight supported mobility device will be located in the Neuro Gait & Balance Clinic, with usage available to all trained physical therapy staff members. Ambulatory patients from all clinic settings will be appropriate to use this treadmill. Clinic room dimensions height 10ft, width 10ft and length 16ft.The second virtual reality treadmill be located in the Vestibular and Post-Concussion clinical areas with usage available to all trained physical therapy staff members. Patients from all clinic settings will be appropriate to use this equipment with complaints of dizziness and imbalance due to a variety of diagnosis including headaches and migraines. Recent research indicates participation in a structured exercises program leads to a reduction in frequency, severity and duration of migraines. In addition, the use of virtual reality and optokinetic stimulus is the management of patient with vestibular migraines. This equipment will add to the physical medicine specialty clinic within a Headache Center of Excellence at the James A. Haley VA Hospital.
