Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

RELATIONSHIPS SHOULD NOT HURT – Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime. Teens often think some behaviors, like teasing and name-calling, are a “normal” part of a relationship. However, these behaviors can become abusive and develop into more serious forms of violence. One in four young people are at risk to encounter an unhealthy relationship. One in ten high school students have been physically hurt on purpose by a dating partner. Nearly 1.5 million high school students across the country experience physical abuse by a dating partner in a single year. Kids in general often receive messages about how to behave in relationships from their peers, the adults in their lives and around them, and through various forms of media. Frequently, the examples they are exposed to suggest that violence in a relationship is normal, but in truth, that is never acceptable.

Every year, we dedicate a week to bringing attention to healthy relationships. This week is Healthy Relationship Awareness Week at MAC. It is represented by the color purple. We want our kids to know that healthy relationships should not be possessive, controlling, or violent. Thursday is our purple out day. We will be giving out purple ribbons during lunches. Most important, we want our kids to recognize a healthy relationship from an unhealthy relationship. Many teens do not report negative or destructive relationships, because they are afraid to tell friends and family. We encourage you to take some time this week and talk to your kids about dating and relationships. Invite them to be open with you. Our kids need to know that love should not hurt. Together we can help foster a healthy and safe future for our kids. Go Brahmas!

Here is all the news for the week:

ACTIVITIES -

MAC FOOTBALL – After a rainy Saturday, the clouds parted long enough to allow for a great evening of football. The Brahmas went up against one of the best teams I have seen come out of South San in a long time. They were big and they were tough, and it was a battle from start to finish.

The Brahma defense came out strong and forced a fumble in South San’s first drive. Michael Gilson picked up the ball and ran it 30-yards for the touchdown. Then early in the second quarter, the Brahma defense forced a 2-point safety. By the half, South San had a close 14 to 9 lead over our Brahmas. It was a defensive game on both sides of the ball, as the third quarter went scoreless. Then in the fourth quarter, Julius Ashe made a 71 yard run to give the Brahmas the lead. Shortly afterwards a 14 yard pass from Austin Lee to Lanir Shabazz added to the Brahmas score. A failed 2-point attempt gave the Brahmas a 22 to 14 lead. South San came back and tied the game as the clock was just over 2 minutes. The Brahmas drove back down the field and with just 7 seconds left in the game, Zach Hopkins put up the go-ahead field goal, as the Brahmas took the win 25 to 22. Congratulations to our boys and a big tip of the hat to the South San Bobcats for a great and exciting game. One of the highlights of the night was when the players, the student fans, and the spirit groups rallied at the stands to sing the alma mater. It was very moving and a great example of Brahma Pride!

This week, all NEISD teams are off. Saturday October 13th, the Brahmas will take on the Johnson Jags at Comalander Stadium at 7 pm. Come on out and support the Brahmas. Go Brahma Football!

FOOTBALL TICKETS – There are no games in district 27-6A this week. The next game will be Saturday October 13th at 7 pm against Johnson, at Comalander. MacArthur will be selling general admission and student tickets. The tickets will be available for purchase at MAC on Thursday and Friday October 11th and 12th from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The cost is $7.00 for general admission and $3.00 for students (Cash only). All tickets are $8 if you purchase them at the gate. Tickets are also available on-line until 8:00 PM of game day. You can go to page/2881 to purchase on-line. You will want to arrive early so you have time to get through the gates. Also, please remember the stadium bag policy. Attached is a copy for your convenience. We look forward to seeing everyone at the game. Go Brahmas!

MAC VOLLEYBALL – Our Lady Brahma Volleyball went up against Reagan at Reagan on Tuesday night. The Freshman A lost in two sets, but JV played strong and took a 2 to 1 win. Varsity put up a good fight, but lost a tough three set match.

On Friday, our Lady Brahmas went up against the Lady Vols of L.E.E. Friday night at Littleton gym. The Vols played strong out of the gate as they took the first game 25 to 19. But our Lady Brahmas were not done. They followed up with three straight wins; 25 to 22, 25 to 22, and 25 to 17, as the Lady Brahmas took the 3 to 1 win over L.E.E.

This Tuesday our Lady Brahmas will be back at Littleton to take on Roosevelt at 5:30 pm. Then on Friday, they will travel to South San to take on the Lady Bobcats at 6:30 pm. Come out and make some noise as we support our Lady Brahmas! Go Lady Brahma Volleyball!

MAC TENNIS - Mac Tennis continued district play last week with the Lee High School and experienced a seasoned lineup of veteran players. Lee jumped out with an early lead and never looked back. The Service Dogs won 10-2 over the Brahmas.  However, Mac was able to secure a win on the girls’ side with the team of Lindsay Santos and Andrea Nunez winning a three set thriller.  The mixed doubles team that consisted of Charlie Freymann and Olivia Arellano won a two and half hour match that lasted well into the night. The Brahmas were represented well and will jump into action next week vs. the Johnson Jaguars and the Reagan Rattlers. Go Brahma Tennis!

MAC BAND – On Saturday, the Brahma Band traveled to Austin to compete in the Capital City Marching Festival. The event was hosted at the Austin ISD Burger Stadium, site of the UIL Region 18 competition. As we have seen at each halftime this year, the Brahmas look and sound fantastic! On Saturday, they were primed to give their very best.

Our Brahmas finished third in the preliminaries, and moved on to the evening finals. Saturday evening they gave an equally strong performance. When the performances were all done, the Brahma Band took the Bronze Medal, and the Best Percussion Award. Congratulations to our awesome Brahma Band and directors on a job well done!

This Tuesday evening they will be performing at Heroes Stadium in the NEISD Fall Marching Festival. Then, on Saturday, they will return to Heroes to compete in the Rough Rider Marching Contest. Go Brahma Band!

MAC BOWLING CLUB - The MacArthur Bowling Club has tryouts on Wednesday, October 3rd after school at the Brunswick Thousand Oaks Bowl at 4330 Thousand Oaks Drive. Beginners and experienced bowlers needed for spaces on the JV and Varsity Boys and Girls teams. Last year the Boys Varsity team placed third in the city and traveled to Illinois for the 2018 US High School Bowling Championship! This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill, enhance your skills, meet new friends and compete against other high school bowlers across the city. For additional information, contact Mac teacher/sponsor Janet Roby at jrobey1@. Go Brahma Bowling!

MAC BRAHMA BATTALION – We want to invite our JROTC family to attend our Annual Open House. Join our cadets on Saturday October 6th from 10 am to 12 pm as they showcase their program and their skills and talents.

Johnson game at Comalander.  The cost for this awesome event is only $30.  For complete information and registration, please see the attached flyer or contact Coach Tondre at stondr@.
