MAEER’s MIT WPU will provide the space and infrastructure support like furniture, electricity, internet to establish a lab space to host the project. 10.Please summarise your Innovation Challenge Fund research project in one sentence. 350 character limitUtilising low-cost short-range wireless technologies to enable new forms of “Digital PPE” that can perform contact-tracing and maintain social distancing in public places, work & transport with a nudge feature. Our Digital PPE can not only keep track of the virus and social distance, but it goes beyond that by enabling information access and knowledge exchange using “Tag in Community” approach.11.Please describe your project further. What problem does your pilot seek to address? Who are the potential beneficiaries and other stakeholders? What are the inputs and activities, and what are the outputs? What does success look like after 12 months of funded research? How will your solution reach the market place? 2500 character limit“Taking the fight to COVID-19 is all about awareness and sharing the right information about what we can all do to help halt the spread of infection. But how do you do this in India, where there are more many languages and different areas with different culture and lifestyles? Integrating digital functions into information access mediums opens up unprecedented opportunities to help spread information, awareness and eventually protect people. We aim to take “Tags in?community” approach that will keep the community moving and help preventing further lockdowns. We will setup a network of short-range tags using Near Field Communications NFC Tags and/or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), these can be installed ubiquitously in multiple environments, offering the opportunity to tag them quickly and scanning performed by phone. Alternatively, users without phones can use a small tag in the form of a card or wearable to access information on a nearby screen or information beacon. Furthermore, these low-cost tags can be utilised as an additional form of security to alert trusted organisations or charities when individuals are worried or concerned. For this, NFC readers will be installed at strategic places at selected environments. Similar to NFC and BLE will be installed in transport and public places and used as an alert and monitoring system based on proximity detection mechanism.Collected data will be relayed to a remote serer based on a smart phone or the stationary hub.A BLE beacon with NFC & QR scanning capability will also be developed as a part of this which could be made mandatory in all public units such as buses, public transport & shops. Anyone who enters any public unit scans their Digital PPE in the beacon. The development of the wearable and tagging systems will be carried out at NTU with goal of small scale test deployment (about 300 users). We will also seek collaboration with IoT and electronic company will be involved in a project would be leveraged to produce NTU’s design for the development of the prototype. This deployment would be scaled up in the three partner states to collect data and trigger nudges/alerts. MAEER would be able to coordinate this activity in collaboration with local organisations. The local authorities in Maharashtra will be able to get dashboard updates through this solution. The users without the smartphone app will get alert directly on their wearable the next time when they try to scan their tag in a beacon. The users without the smartphone app will get alert directly on their wearable the next time when they try to scan their tag in a beacon. At the end of the 12-month period, we expect to have tagging and proximity detection-based solutions that are all ready for production at scale with low-cost tags, wearable and remote platform commercialization. 12.What is ‘technological’ about your proposed solution and why might this be appropriate to the challenge areas?1000 character limitDevelop a system for the future smart communication. These short-range tags like (including NFC, BLE and UWB), can communicate with server for any real-world object like vehicles, wearable devices or clothes. This enables the communication system to enhance the services like advertisement, health information processing, safety of vehicles. This suits the healthcare and future mobility theme. This solution can be utilised with and without a smart phone, for examples, a user with a preprogramed NFC tag (in the shape of a wearable of a card) can relay information about COVID symptoms, alternatively a user can scan a NFC or BLE tag using a wearable of a smart phone. -1456690146050013.Is your proposed solution a response to the impacts of COVID-19, or an effort to contain the pandemic? If so, please explain. 1000 character limit This project will provide an affordable technology with location-based approach that can alert and provide information on the go. This approach will contribute to Indian Government’s effort to reduce the rate of transmission and increase awareness among the public as they go to everyday places. It can help to keep the economy moving and to avoid total lockdown. Important point here is this can give an accurate & precise data using very low-cost easy-to-use technologies distributed locally. This solution therefore provides the opportunity to contain the pandemic. The proposed tagging and low-cost wearable approach will help for people to access information on the go and in relation to the surrounding environment.14.Does your proposed solution contribute to combatting climate change or promoting a greener planet? If so, please explain. 1000 character limitWith the use of these tags this project is reducing not only direct energy consumption but also will contribute by avoiding traffic congestion, fuel efficient movement of vehicles etc. 15.How is your proposal relevant to the development challenges of India? 1000 character limitIndia is a growing country and was already on a digital-first trajectory when the pandemic struck, and further propelled the use of contactless digital solutions. From spreading awareness and meeting healthcare needs to building data-driven public policy on health, the use of technology fulfils many roles. Indian government came up with the scheme of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Resilient India). This scheme is based on five pillars wise Economy, Infrastructure, System, Vibrant Demography and Demand. The government is promoting health solutions under the Covid-19 situation as current challenge. This project solution is inline with the Indian government’s strategies. The success of this project will help to achieve the targets of the five pillars scheme. It will provide much needed technology that is cheap, scalable and very easy to setup. This technology will help in maintaining social distancing, reduce overcrowding, monitor the spread of the disease, but most importantly it will provide an affordable way to access & exchange information on the go including rural areas.16.What consideration have you made of gender in developing your concept? Could your project address gender inequality or other kinds of inequality? 1000 character limitAll partners promote gender equality, and therefore equality of opportunity will be fundamental to this project. We have an interest in demonstrating these technologies to groups traditionally under-represented in engineering, such as women, giving students an opportunity to study and learn this new technology. MIT-WPU has around 1,320 students, both male and female, who will have an equal opportunity. We will make sure that equal genders are engaged in all parts of this research project. The technical team has equal representation from both the genders (PI from NTU UK is a female academic). The wearables solution developed as part of this research can then be re-purposed once the COVID-19 epidemic is over. They can also be utilised to support older people, crime prevention using the concept of Digital Brochure which can launch a website or an app. Also, they can be used to keep vulnerable people (including women who suffer from Domestic abuse) connected with local volunteers and community services.Dr Kanjo from NTU works closely with various organisations in the UK to support vulnerable people to access information using Tag in community approach.Notes: Please be kindly reminded of the primary criteria: relevance to the environmental and/or C19 agenda. See boxes 13 and 14. Except box 5, all boxes require mandatory response. In the interests of fairness, proposals that exceed the character limits will not be considered. ................
