1. FORTUNATELY/UNFORTUNATELY BOOKYour task is to create a book with a cover that includes the title, author, your name and a representative picture. Your book needs a minimum of six “Fortunately” and five “Unfortunately” incidents, in chronological order, that tell the main events of the story. Start and end with a “Fortunately”. Illustrate the pages and be thorough. (See my example) 2. THEME GRAPHIC ORGANIZERYour task centers on identifying the theme. Get the outline from me.3. DIALECTICAL JOURNALYour task is to choose two passages from each chapter then make a chart that includes the chapter, page number, quote, and why you chose it. Your reasons can include that your selection was important, well-written, a turning point, the climax, introduces a character, foreshadows, was confusing, etc. (See my example)4. ‘I AM…’ POEM OR CHARACTER SHOEYour task, for the poem, is to analyze a character by finishing these sentence starters: I am, I wonder, I hear, I see, I want, I am, I pretend, I feel, I touch, I worry, I cry, I am. I understand, I say, I dream, I try, I hope, I amFor the shoe, your task is to choose a character and draw a shoe you think he/she would wear. On the shoe you will label things such as where the character walked, things the character said or was said about the character (tongue), thoughts (sole), things seen (lace “eyes”) etc. Think of other parts of a shoe: heel, laces/knots, logo, etc. You need to label at least eight things. (See my example)5. MINT TIN Your task is to do a “book report” on and in a mint tin. (See my example and get the outline from me).6. CAUSE/EFFECT CHAINYour task is to make a cause and effect chain with at least ten panels/incidents. The chain must be sequential and chronological. (See my example)7. MATCHBOOKYour task is to create a small picture and short summary (no less than five sentences, no more than seven) of each chapter. These will be glued onto a larger paper such as a file folder or construction paper. (See my example)8. MOOD/TONE PICTURE Your task is to make an enlarged copy of one of the pages in your book. Decide what the author’s tone does to your mood. Identify the tone words, separate them, and then draw a picture of the mood. (See my example)9. CHARACTERS, SETTING AND EVENTS BINGOYour task is to create a Bingo card for every person in your group. The cards need to contain information from the story and each card should be set up differently so not everyone finishes at the same time. This is checking everyone’s understanding, so for example you might say, “What did Cinderella lose?” and your group members would look for the square that has “Slipper” on it and cross that out.10. MAGAZINE COVERYour task is to design a magazine cover that correlates to the book. Use paper no smaller than 8 1/2 x 11 (standard printing paper). A drawing of a character should be dominant and “article” titles that represent the character, theme, setting, etc. should surround it. (See my example)11. TRI-FOLD CARD OR EXTENSION FOLDABLEYour task is to create the tri-fold OR Extension Foldable with representations of the characters, setting, theme, etc. The Extension Foldable can be sectioned into beginning, middle, end. It should be colorful, neat and interesting. (See my example)12. HAIKUSYour task is to create a haiku for every major character, the setting, and the theme. A haiku is a three-line poem in which the first line has five syllables, the second has seven, and the third has five. (See my example)13. WHOSE PHONE IS THIS? OR SUMMARIZING A CHARACTERYour task, for “Whose Phone is This?” is to create the wallpaper, email, and playlist of one of the characters. (Get the outline from me) “Summarizing a Character analyzes a character by his/her playlist, facebook, inbox, and text message. Come get the outline from me.14. TEDTALKYour task is to choose a character and record a TEDtalk on a topic that would be important to him/her. Use examples we have watched in class and/or view some on your own to get a good idea how to proceed.15. CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE WITH TEXT EVIDENCEYour task is to write short paragraphs on each the main characters and setting that answer “What kind of person/setting was _______” It will include the answer, supporting details, evidence based terms, textual evidence, and an explanation. (See my example)16. TEXT DEPENDENT QUESTIONSYour task is to write ten strong questions that cannot be answered without having read the book. You will ask your group these questions, so you should know the answers. Refer to the Text Dependent Questions Stems in your Interactive Notebook.17. PLOT GRAPHThis visual includes the theme, setting, exposition, impetus, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. Ask me for the outline.18. ONE PAGERThis one-sided assignment should be done on 8 ? x 11 (printer) paper and will include a visual image, word cluster, poem, cited and explained quote, your connection, analysis, questions, etc. (See my example)19. HEXAGON EXPLOSION BOX. Your task is to put the title and author in the center and then do multiple layers on each “tab” about the characters, setting, theme, etc. It should be colorful and interesting. (Get the box template from me) 20. FEVER CHARTYour task is to analyze the spectrum of emotions experienced by the main character. You will list those emotions and at least three examples from each chapter on a chart. (See my example)21. THEME TRIANGLEYour task is to write the theme of the book on one point and then choose two other related genres such as a movie, another fiction or nonfiction book, a poem, article, interview, song, short story, etc. Choose two different genres for the other two points of the triangle. (See my example)22. SOMEBODY WANTED, BUT, SO, THENYour task is to make a chart by filling in the frames of somebody (character), wanted (desire), but (problem), so (solution), then (resolution) for each of the characters in your book. (See my example)23. MINIBOOK SUMMARYYour task is to create a summary that is chronological (beginning, middle, end) and will fit in a minibook. It must include illustrations. (See my example)24. KEYHOLEYour task is to draw a keyhole shape using as much of an 8 ? x 11 paper as possible. Inside the keyhole draw a scene from the book one might see if he/she looked through the keyhole. Use detail. (See my example).25. POWERPOINT, PREZI, ETC. Your task is to create an electronic activity that shows your comprehension of the story. The choice is yours; be creative.
