This position will assist with serving food to students at the Kansas School for the Blind campus, under the instruction of the Kitchen Supervisor. The Food Service Worker will assist in the preparation of salads, vegetables and other foods. All foods are prepared according to standardized recipe and food service standards. Serves prepared meals, while maintaining proper portion control. The Food Service Worker will be responsible for setting up, serving and cleaning in the cafeteria dining room. Receives, checks-in and inventories food and supplies as instructed. Cleans and sanitizes work areas, cafeteria, and equipment to maintain kitchen and food service area cleanliness. The position requires the ability to operate and care for standard cooking equipment such as mixing machines, steam cookers, scales, toasters, food choppers, and a variety of ovens and stoves.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of foods and food preparation. Knowledge of the operation and care of kitchen equipment. Ability to count and sort.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work effectively with fellow workers and others. -Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. -Ability to learn the use and care of equipment, materials, utensils, and methods used in food service. -Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. -Ability to work long hours in rooms at high temperatures. -Ability to work in cold storage room when necessary.Working Environment: Kitchen/Cafeteria and Educational/classroom environment.
