Congratulations for our seniors who are in the process of receiving college and career acceptances and carefully thinking through their next steps. For those of you who aren’t at this stage yet, most colleges and universities aim to have their acceptances out by March 31st or April 1st. It’s an unusual year, to be certain, but that doesn’t take away the thrill of planning your post-Wilson growth and learning!Class of 2021. Juniors, have you finally finished watching Tiger King on Netflix and wondering what else you can do with your online time? Online college tours, that’s what! US News & World Reports offers these tips for making the most out of a virtual college tour. Thinking of options other than a four-year school? Check out Forbes’ ranking of the Top 25 Trade Schools. The US Department of Labor has an online list of apprenticeship opportunities as well, that can be found here. Use your time now to do some online searches. Another great way to get to know a school is to read the online version of its student newspaper. While a school may not be publishing currently, if you look for past months’ publications, you can get a real feel for a school. Checking out the institution’s official Instagram or snapchat account is another way to get to know the campus and its student body better. Families of Juniors who took the in-school SAT on March 4th, your scores are ready. Log in to your account to get them.Free Lunch for ALL Students. Wilson HS is one of the many sites across the city serving free lunch to all students. You do not need to be a Wilson student to get free lunch at Wilson. Lunches are served Monday through Friday from 10am – 2pm. Service is grab ‘n go, no seating to eat.Free Resources at Home. Searching for more knowledge a good boredom buster while we are all at home in between your scholar’s online learning time? Here are some free resources we came across and wanted to share. There are numerous colleges and universities that are offering free online classes ranging from business, to data science, to opera and much more. Looking for a good read? Here’s NPR’s top 100 books of 2019. Or try this list of movies based on classic novels. Or books by black authors adapted to film. Or this list of the 40 best film adaptations of novels.Want to broaden your history knowledge? Common Sense Media has this list of the best history documentaries. Or if you want international flavor, BBC has this list of the best foreign language films of the 21st Century. While our amazing Wilson Theater program is on hiatus, here are some options for watching free arts and theater from home. The National Theatre (UK) will be offering free streaming of a number of their past performances, including Shakespear’s Twelfth Night and Jane Eyre starting this Thursday April 2nd. More information can be found here. The Metropolitan Opera (NY) will stream a performance every day from its Live in HD series. Each performance will be available from 7:30pm to 6:30pm the next day. Instructions for how to access are here. And, don’t forget to keep fit! DC Department of Parks and Recreation has a number of free online videos for ways you can keep fit while you’re home.
