U.S. Astronaut Scott Kelly highlights PRSA International Conference coming to Indianapolis

2,500 professionals from all over the world to gather in Indy for first time this October

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 11, 2016) – Pioneering U.S. astronaut Capt. Scott J. Kelly (U.S. Navy, Ret.) headlines an impressive list of keynote speakers and public relations industry leaders gathering in Indianapolis for the Public Relations Society of America International Conference October 23 – 25. More than 2,500 veteran and aspiring professionals are expected to attend the event, which is being held in Indianapolis for the first time.

Kelly recently returned from a record-setting year aboard the International Space Station and will recount his experience while speaking about pushing one’s own limits during the opening keynote presentation. Other keynote speakers include:

• Former White House Chief Information Officer Theresa Payton – Named by Security magazine as one of the “Most Influential People in Security,” Payton is one of America's most respected authorities on Internet security, data breaches and fraud mitigation. She will spotlight practical ways that PR professionals can help address the risks of a data breach and communicate proactively on the subject.

• Marketing and social media expert Scott Stratten – One of the top five social media influencers in the world according to and one of “America’s 10 Marketing Gurus” as named by Business Review USA, Stratten is the author of four best-selling books, including his latest, “UnSelling: The New Customer Experience.” His unconventional insights offer a refreshing perspective on how to think differently and more effectively engage consumers.

• NCAA President Mark Emmert – Emmert worked in a number of key leadership positions during his career in higher education prior to taking the helm at the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 2010. He will discuss how recent advances in college sports are creating a pathway to opportunity for student-athletes and the critical role clear, concise and targeted communications play in sharing that information.

• Human rights advocate Derreck Kayongo – A Ugandan refugee living in Kenya during his childhood, Kayongo is a living example of perseverance, risk-taking and triumph. Now the CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights, his passion for life will inspire as he highlights the power of simple ideas to address global problems.

The conference is designed for professional communicators and marketers. PRSA members and non-members alike can save $200 if registered by Sept. 6. In addition to the keynote presentations, there will be three full days of professional development sessions with more than 150 industry experts from all career levels, sectors, work environments and industries, and the opportunity to connect with hundreds of colleagues from some of the world’s most influential organizations.
