1. Hashim Thaci elected as President of Kosovo

Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci has been elected as president of Kosovo by the Members of Parliament amid the protests. He succeeded Atifete Jahjaga as head of state after winning the required simple majority in voting held in Pristina.

He had also served as prime minister fell out with many opposition groups after helping to negotiate with Serbia a deal that gave more autonomy to minority Serbs of Kosovo.

2. Peru declared emergency after oil spill Hits Rivers

Peru government has declared state emergency after a major oil pipeline burst affecting two rivers in the country’s northeast region.

At least 3, 000 barrels of crude oil have spilled into the Chiriaco and Morona rivers which are prime source of water for the use of people of this region.

The emergency will provide humanitarian help for the communities around the affected region, the spills have stopped transportation of 6, 000 barrels of oil a day.

3. NASA Invites India To Jointly Explore Mars

India and the US could jointly explore Mars and, who knows, an Indian astronaut could also head to the Red planet on a joint mission.

4. EU releases 252 million euros in aid for Palestinians

To support the Palestinian Authority’s health and education programmes and to offer services to their refugees in the middle east, EU has released 252 mn Euros ($274 millions).

A recent UK study reveals that London is the most expensive city to live in overtaking

10. Punjab Government ban the sale of Army uniform in the state

Punjab government imposed a ban on the sale of Army uniform in the state without proper identification. This announcement came following the Pathankot and Gurdaspurattacks in the state.

It becomes mandatory to submit the Phone number and Self attested copy of identity card to the seller to buy Army uniform

The ban also includes the sale of red and blue stickers used by police vehicles.The government also prohibited the use of plates of political parties on vehicles.These orders would remain in force till 21st April,2016

11. Sataparna Mukherjee, a Class 12 student bags top Nasa scholarship

Eighteen-year-old Sataparna Mukherjee, a Class 12 student from a village around 30km from Kolkata, has been selected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) for its prestigious Goddard Internship Programme under the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS).

Nasa’s GIP selects five exceptional individuals from across the world every year and funds their entire education after school.

Sataparna, who will appear for her school-leaving exams this year from St Judes School, Madhyamgram, in Kamduni – it gained notoriety for a brutal gangrape in

12. Military Exercise FORCE 18 kicked off in Pune

Indian Army kicked off a week long Multinational Field Training Exercise (FTX)“Force 18”in Pune at headquarters of the Indian Army’s Southern Command. It will conclude on March 8, 2016. This is the maiden multinational exercise ever conducted by ground forces on Indian soil.

20. PM Narendra Modi Launches ‘Setu Bharatam’ Project, To Boost Infrastructure

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Rs 50,000-crore "Setu Bharatam" programme to build bridges for safe and seamless travel on National Highways.

22. Government Proposes 10 Member Kashmiri Pandit Panel

The government of India has proposed to constitute a committee of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) to monitor implementation of packages for rehabilitation of the displaced community. The committee panel will consist 10 member.

According to the last month proposal of the Union Home Ministry the panel will includes the representatives of migrant camps from Muthi and Pukhroo.

This year’s budget saw that more than half of the Rs. 580 crore fund allocated for the

rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants remained unutilised during 2015-16 but as per revised estimates, only Rs. 280 crore was provided, leaving Rs. 300 crore unutilised.

25. Jaypee Sells Cement Biz to UltraTech for Rs 16,500 crore

26. Zee Media to acquire 80% stake in India Today companies

Zee Media Corporation will acquire up to 80 per cent stake in India Today group’s loss-making e-commerce and TV shopping entities — Today Merchandise and Today Retail Network Pvt Ltd — for Rs 166 crore in staggered payments over the next four years.

31. India Signs Financing Agreement with World Bank For US$ 3OO Million

A financing agreement for International Development Association (IDA) credit of US$ 300 (equivalent) for the Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Quality Improvement Project was signed with the World Bank.

32. International Finance Corporation Launches Masala Bonds

International Finance Corporation (IFC), an part of the World Bank group launched its first Uridashi Masala bonds ( Japanese Bonds ) to mobilize R30 crore (or $4.3 million) directly from Japanese household investors to promote private sector development in India.

The 3 year bond builds on IFC's Masala bond program which has raised the approx $1.7 billion from international investors for investment in India.

Masala bonds are rupee denominated instruments sold only to offshore investors,

while Uridashi bonds are sold to Japanese household investors.

The steps from IFC's Uridashi Masala bonds will be used to support private sector investment in India. JP Morgan is the sole arranger of the bonds and Daisen Hinomaru Securities is its distributor.

38. SBI granted operating licence by Myanmar

India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has been granted preliminary approval to operate Myanmar.

SBI was granted operating licence by Myanmar Government along with three other Asian banks. They are Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Sun Commercial Bank of Taiwan and Shinhan Bank of South Korea.

With this, total 13 foreign banks have now been given permission to operate inside the Myanmar so far in an attempt to attract overseas investment to the emergent nation.

43. Capital Area Bank first to get small finance bank licence

Jalandhar based Capital Local Area Bank Limited has given small financial bank licence by the Reserve Bank of India, The Operation of the Bank will kick start from April 13, 2016.

51. Randeep Hooda Honoured With Achievement Award In Australia

Randeep Hooda, the Bollywood actor was felicitated by Melbourne based South Asian community members at a function in Australia. On the occasion, the 39-year-old actor, also shared his memories of the time he spent as an international student in the country.

Nine writers, including one from India, Jerry Pinto, have been awarded with the Windham Campbell Prizes at Yale University for their literary achievements.

Eminent poet Dr. Bhagwati Lal Vyas has been chosen for the 2015 Bihari Puraskar for his anthology of Rajasthani poems ‘Katha Sun Aawe Hai Sabad’.

A recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award, Dr. Vyas has highlighted the increasing tendencies of commercialization and degradation of human values through his poetry.

Dr. Vyas was born on July 10, 1941 in village Gilund of Raj Samand district of Rajasthan. He retired as Principal of RNT College of Teacher Education in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.

54. Manoj Kumar To Be Conferred Dada Saheb Phalke Award For The Year 2015

Veteran Film Actor and Director Shri Manoj Kumar is to be conferred the 47th Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2015.

Award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The Award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs and a shawl. Last year, the Dadasaheb Phalke award was given to Shashi Kapoor.

Veteran playwright and director Ratan Thiyam has been selected for prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016 at the 11th edition of Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META).

The award will be given to the theatre guru Ratan Thiyam for creating a new language in theatre and enriching the art form in various roles as writer, director, designer, composer and choreographer.

The Mumbai under-23 team clinched the Col CK Nayudu Trophy by defeating Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

Mumbai bowled out Madhya Pradesh for 442 and took a first innings lead of 135 runs to be declared the winner.
