LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING ACADEMY
ADVANCED FIREARMS COURSE
August 15 – 16, 2018
Upon successful completion the candidate will proceed to the two week
FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR COURSE
September 10 – 21, 2018
Location TBA
Enclosed are all the required qualifying courses that will be shot at the advanced firearms course. You will be shooting practice drills on day one that are preparatory in content to hone one's shooting skills needed for the qualification requirements of the Advance Course and later on the Firearms Instructor Program. Continued practice on your own will increase your likelihood of success.
Again, I will state, it is not the intention of the Advance of Firearms course to train an officer to become proficient with his firearm. To be invited to the Firearms Instructor Course this proficiency must already exist. If you send applicants who historically have had trouble or are indifferent when it comes to qualifying at your department, or have no interest in practicing, understand they may not get past the Advance Course and proceed to the Firearms Instructor Course. Consult your current range master.
COURSES OF FIRE:
1. FUNDEMENTALS EVALUATOR COURSE
2. NY STATE QUALIFICATION COURSE
3. CPS QUALIFICATION COURSES
The CPS qualification courses are set up using your department’s patrol duty weapon loaded to capacity. For example a fully loaded Glock Model 22 has three 15 rd. magazines, and 1 rd. in the chamber, so the qualification is a 46 rd. course. A Glock Model 23 has three 13 rd. magazines, and 1 in the chamber, for a 40 rd. course. Be sure you practice the correct course for your weapons capacity.
