Chapter Title (Heading 2) – Instructions for Word users

(Please scroll down for Google drive instructions)

This is the start of a new section. When you press enter, it will immediately create a new paragraph, with the proper indentation.

I’ve now started a new paragraph – sorted.

To start a new section, press Enter and then Ctrl-Shift-n. (That saves you opening the Styles & Formatting box.)

To start a new chapter, press Enter then Ctrl-2. That will put what you next type into Heading 2, which automatically starts a new page. If you open your document map / navigation pane, which will appear on the left-hand side, you’ll see all your chapter headings appear there. You can click on those to jump up and down in your manuscript. Hurrah!

Sub-heading (Heading 3)

You can also create sub-headings for your own use (Ctrl-3) so you can jump easily to particular scenes, if you want to.

Your novel’s title will automatically appear in the header, and the numbering will automatically appear in the footer.

If you need to change the spacing to submit your manuscript, then go into Styles & Formatting and change the “Normal” style to whatever spacing you prefer, whichever they want.
