Activity 29: My Income Charts

Essential Learning Skills: creating a Column Chart and a Pie Chart as you examine your personal budget from SS Activity 28.

1. Open SS Act. 28. Go to File and select Save As. Name the

file SS Act. 29.

2. New Labels

❑ In cell A19, type Income.

❑ In cell A20, type Expenses.

❑ In cell A21, type Savings.

3. New formulas

❑ In cell B19, type the formula that will transfer your total income from the cell in which it is located on the spreadsheet.

❑ In cell B20, type the formula that will transfer your total expenses from the cell in which it is located on the spreadsheet.

❑ In cell B21, type =B19-B20

❑ If the values that appear in cells B19 through B21 are not formatted for currency, format them this way.

4. Make a Column Chart of your Income, Expenses and Savings

❑ Select cells A19 through B21

❑ Click the Chart Wizard button form the Standard Toolbar.

❑ Choose Column.

❑ Add a Title and labels for x and y axis’.

❑ Drag the chart so it is positioned below cell A22.

5. Make a Pie Chart comparing your Expenses and Savings

❑ Select cells A20 through B21

❑ Click the Chart Wizard button from the Standard Toolbar.

❑ Choose Pie.

❑ Add a Title and Show Percentages.

❑ One or both of the charts may need to be resized so they can be placed next to each other on the spreadsheet.

6. Finishing

❑ In the footer, type Activity 29, press enter and type your name.

❑ In the page set up, make sure you are in landscape format with the answers showing.

❑ Print preview to make sure your worksheet only takes up one page and your data is showing as well.

❑ Compare your worksheet charts with the Answer Samples.

❑ Go to File and select Save. Name the file SS Act 29.

❑ Submit through Edmodo or as directed by teacher.
