Logo Transformation Mini-Project - Geometry
Name: ______________________________________ Due Date: Friday, Nov. 14th
Logo Transformation Project
Goal: Create a recognizable and catchy logo to help with the marketing campaign of a company.
Role: Creative Director for Advertising Firm
Audience: Client (a company)
Situation: A new business has contacted your advertising firm to ask you to develop their new logo. They want their logo to be able to be recognizable in all forms of media (web, magazine, billboards, etc.) and want you to prove to them that customers will be able to know it is their company from all angles.
Product: A design of the company logo before and after all 3 rigid transformations, with the pre-image and image coordinates calculated.
1. Logo Design: Designed with 7 Key Points. Logo must contain at least three special quadrilaterals (parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus, isosceles trapezoid, kite).
2. Transformations: Accurately transform your logo using translations, reflections and rotation.
3. Proof: Using the coordinates of your figure, prove which quadrilateral is in your logo using the distance, slope and/or midpoint formulas.
4. Area and Perimeter – Use the distance formula to determine the area and perimeter of your three quadrilaterals.

+5 Extra Credit Section (Double Transformation)
Step 1: Design your original logo and sketch it on the graph below.
• Draw 7 points that will help you re-draw your logo each time.
• Label these 7 important points A, B, C, D, E.
• Write down the coordinates of these 7 important points so you can graph it again
|Point A |Point B |Point C |Point D |Point E |Point F |Point G |
| ( , ) |( , ) |( , ) |( , ) |( , ) |( , ) |( , ) |
Step 1: Translation
Translate your logo ___________________________.
Arrow Notation: (x , y)((_______,_______)
Ex. 2 units to the right and 3 units down: (x , y)((x + 2 , y – 3)
|Logo Coordinates |Add 2 to the x’s |Translated Logo Coordinates |
| |Subtract 3 from the y’s | |
|Point 1: (4 , 10) |(4 + 2 , 10 – 3) |(6 , 7) |
Your logo
|Original Logo Coordinates |Notation |Final Logo Coordinates |
|Point A: ( , ) | |A’( , ) |
|Point B: ( , ) | |B’( , ) |
|Point C: ( , ) | |C’( , ) |
|Point D: ( , ) | |D’( , ) |
|Point E: ( , ) | |E’( , ) |
|Point F: ( , ) | |F’( , ) |
|Point G: ( , ) | |G’( , ) |
Graph and label your translated points and sketch your translated logo.

Step 2: Reflection
Reflect your logo across ___________.
Arrow Notation: (x , y) ( (_____,_____)
Exampe. Reflect across the x-axis: (x, y) ( (x, -y)
|Logo Coordinates |Change the sign of the y to get |
| |Reflected Logo Coordinates |
|Point 1: (4 , 10) |(4 , -10) |
Your logo
|Original Logo Coordinates |Final Logo Coordinates |
|Point A: ( , ) |A’( , ) |
|Point B: ( , ) |B’( , ) |
|Point C: ( , ) |C’( , ) |
|Point D: ( , ) |D’( , ) |
|Point E: ( , ) |E’( , ) |
|Point F: ( , ) |F’( , ) |
|Point G: ( , ) |G’( , ) |
Graph and label the new reflected points and sketch your reflected logo.

Step 3: Rotation
Rotate your logo ___________________.
Arrow Notation: (x , y) ( (___,___)
Example. 90⁰ clockwise: (x , y) ( (y , -x)
|Logo Coordinates |Switch x and y, changing the second’s sign |
| |= Rotated Logo Coordinates |
|Point 1: (4 , 10) |(-10 , 4) |

|Point D: | |
|Point E: | |
|Point F: | |
|Point G: | |
Graph and label your new rotated points and sketch your rotated logo.

EXTRA CREDIT: Multiple Transformations
Was this project too easy? Try doing two transformations at once to show off a little.
Transformation 1: _________________________ (You decide!)
|Original Logo Coordinates |Coordinates after 1st transformation |
|Point A: | |
|Point B: | |
|Point C: | |
|Point D: | |
