Microsoft Lync 2010 for iPad Getting Started

Microsoft® Lync™ 2010 for the iPad is a new app that brings presence, instant messaging (IM), and the voice capabilities of Lync to your device. With Lync 2010 on the iPad, you can choose from multiple ways to communicate with others, including IM, or calling using either your work or mobile number.

Lync provides access to your Contacts list when you are away from the office, so that you can check your co-workers’ presence status and availability before contacting them. You also have access to the company directory, so you can look up contact information, including additional phone numbers, and personal notes.

Install Lync on the iPad

Installing the Lync 2010 application on your mobile phone is as easy as installing any other application on your phone.

1. From your iPad, go to the App Store, and search for Microsoft Lync 2010 for iPad.

2. Tap the Free button in the app and then tap Install and enter your App Store Apple ID and password. As soon as the app is installed, it appears on your home screen.

Sign in to Lync on the iPad

If you have a data plan, or your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, signing in is as easy as starting an application.

Start the Lync app, and on the sign-in screen, enter your credentials, and then tap Sign In.

Set call options

When you first sign in to Lync, you’ll be guided to configure your call options.

Important   You can set call options for Lync on the iPad. However, when you make a Lync call or join an online meeting from your iPad, the call is routed to Microsoft Lync Server 2010, which calls you back at your mobile phone number that you have specified in the My Mobile Number option.

My Mobile Number

The My Mobile Number that is specified is used by Lync Server 2010 to set up outgoing work calls. When you make a work call, the call is routed to Lync Server 2010, which calls you back at your mobile phone number. After you answer the call, Lync Server places the call to the call recipient.

During your first sign-in, Lync automatically sets your incoming work calls to simultaneously ring on your mobile number. By default, the Simultaneously Ring option specifies that all your devices that are running Lync, including your computer, desk phone, and mobile device, display an alert when you receive an incoming call to your work number. You can also use the Simultaneously Ring option to specify that Lync rings your home number, or a new number.

• When you first sign in, type in your mobile phone number, and then tap Next and you’re ready to start using Lync.

Note To make changes to your call options after the first sign in, tap the My Info icon, tap Options, and then select the option you’d like to change.

Simultaneously Ring on your Work and Mobile Number

The Simultaneously Ring option specifies that all your devices that are running Lync, such as your computer and mobile device, ring when you receive an incoming call. This is the default option. Lync on your mobile device tries to set the incoming calls to work option for you when you first sign in. You should verify that incoming calls to work is set to simultaneously ring your mobile number.

To set Simultaneously Ring:

1. Tap the My Info icon, and then tap Simultaneously Ring or Call Forwarding.

2. On the Call Forwarding screen, select Simultaneously Ring, and then do one of the following:

• Select the number of your mobile device if it’s available in the list.

• Or, if your mobile device number is not available in the list, select New Number, and then enter the number of your mobile device.

3. Tap Done to save the changes.

Forward calls to voice mail or another number

The Call Forwarding option is typically used to forward calls to voice mail or to a number other than your mobile number. To receive calls to your mobile device number while you’re away from the office, we recommend that you use the Simultaneously Ring option as described in the previous procedure.

To set Call Forwarding:

1. Tap the My Info icon, and then tap Simultaneously Ring or Forward Calls.

2. On the Call Forwarding screen, tap Forward Calls to turn on call forwarding, and then specify the number that you want your calls forwarded to.

• To call someone in your Contacts list, find the contact, tap the contact’s name, and then select the number you want to call.

• When the call is placed, you’ll first need to accept the Lync call in order to make the outgoing call.

Set your status

If you don’t want to be disturbed or you plan to be away from your mobile device, you can manually change your presence status from Available to Busy, Do Not Disturb, Be Right Back, or Appear Away.

• To change your status, tap the My Info icon, tap Status, and then select your status.
