Details for Scholarship Requirements for Graduating High School Students – Spring 2017

New for 2016/2017 school year: 2 application due dates

For Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship (LECS) only: first Thursday in October 2016 by 4:00 pm

For all other scholarships through the ACCF: first Thursday in February 2017 by 4:00 pm

(These due dates are set in stone, and there are no exceptions – even if schools are closed due to inclement weather, etc. – so please plan accordingly)

Scholarships (and eligibility requirements): applications available:

Scholarship opportunities at the ACCF continue to grow. To help expedite the process for ACCF staff, the following forms are also required to be submitted with your 4-year or 2-year* application.

1. Scholarship Eligibility Page / Check-Off Form: This can be obtained from your high school guidance office or from the ACCF website. On this form, please ‘check’ the scholarships you are eligible for and wished to be considered for. Only one copy of this form is required.

2. Supplemental Information Sheet: This can be obtained from your high school guidance office or from the ACCF website. The information on this form help committee member follow the instructions of scholarships with special requests. Only one copy of this form is required.

* The 2-year (Trades / Vocational) degree application has fewer pages than the 4-year degree application. Students intending to obtain a vocational degree or a 2-year degree may fill out the 2-year application. This application may be obtained at your high school guidance office or from the ACCF website.

Supplemental Materials:

Some scholarships require supplemental materials in order to be eligible for their scholarship. All supplemental materials are due on the 2nd Thursday in February 2017 by 4:00 pm. This due date is one week after the application due date listed above. There are two types of supplemental materials. They are:

1. Proof of Association: The following scholarships require a Proof of Association form in order to be considered for their scholarship: Dixie (Harvey) Arven, American Legion Post #43 (Decatur), American Legion Post #468 (Berne), Decatur Vol. Fire Department, Meshberger/LICA, and Smith Bros of Berne / Nick Taylor. The proof required varies by each scholarship and is outlined on each form. Only one copy of each proof you choose to submit is required. Proof of Association forms are available from your high school guidance office and the ACCF website.

2. Essay: The following scholarships require an essay to be submitted in order to be considered for their scholarship: Trooper Cory Elson, Bryan Miller, Nut Tree Reading, and Officer Jerry Wyss. Essay topic / requirements vary by each scholarship and are available from your high school guidance office, the ACCF website, and are included in this document following the respective scholarship description. Please note that multiple copies of each essay are required for submission.

Note: Supplemental materials may be submitted on the same day as your application; however, please have them separated from your application. Please paperclip like-essays together. Reminder: all supplemental materials are due the 2nd Thursday in February 2017 by 4:00 pm.

Late applications will not be accepted – NO EXCEPTIONS (even due to weather conditions)! Please plan accordingly for potential inclement weather.

Please note that the number and dollar amount of all scholarships awarded vary from year to year and are based on the amount of return of the ACCF investments.

Designated scholarship committees will review the applications which the student has indicated he/she is eligible. If a student has any questions about the scholarship requirements beyond these instructions, please contact your high school guidance office or the ACCF office.

Hard-working: Jerry worked hard in everything he did. He did not shy away from hard work, and he did not seek undue recognition or sympathy for it; Jerry’s perseverance paid off for him on many occasions.

Positive Outlook: Jerry had an attitude that integrated fun into everything he did, whether it was work or play. He made hard work enjoyable, recreation was pleasant, and he remained upbeat and didn’t dwell so such matters when things did not go his way.

Loyalty: Jerry was a loyal friend that could always be depended on to jump into action, even if it was inconvenient for him (outside of work) or dangerous for him (while on duty). He would not betray the trust between friends.

Note to applicant: When evaluating the Bryan James Miller essays, the selection committee will look for the description of behavior or the lifestyle of the applicant. The scholarship committee will review how an applicant handled a situation and/or how the applicant possesses one or more of the key qualities and values admired in Bryan. Applicants may choose to address and give examples using one or two of the following qualities/values:

Faith: Bryan had a very strong faith and was involved in his church’s youth ministry programs. Give an example of how your faith has impacted your life.

Honesty: Bryan’s strong morals and integrity were admirable. Give an example of an experience you had that questioned your honesty, but you made a good choice to exercise honesty & integrity.

Humor: Bryan’s friends often shared stories of Bryan’s humor and wit. Courteous or polite humor is a trait often appreciated. Describe an example of an incident where you exercised good-taste

in a humorous situation.

Family and friends: Bryan was very close to his family and friends. Rarely would he be alone. He loved his parents, sister, grandparents and friends. His family treasured the time they spent together.

Paul W. Zurcher (Z Fund) Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: Students seeking a 2- or 4-year degree or post-secondary vocational training are eligible to apply

Students must show a connection to the Best-One Tire & Service group (Best-One employee or employee’s spouse/ child dependent)

To apply: Students must submit the Paul W. Zurcher (Z Fund) Memorial Scholarship application (located on ACCF website)

Students must submit Proof of Association with Best-One Tire & Service (included in application)

Students must submit essay showing how they live out Paul’s Nine Commitments through school, church, or community activities (see application for details)

Applications may be submitted via mail (ACCF 102 N. 2nd St. Decatur, IN 46733), dropped off at the ACCF office during business hours (M-Th 8-4 / F 8-1), or via
