With total assets of just over $2 billion, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is one of the largest private foundations in the United States.

The Weinberg Foundation provides approximately $100 million in annual grants to nonprofits that provide

direct services to low-income and vulnerable individuals and families, primarily in the US and Israel. Grants are focused on meeting basic needs and enhancing an individual's ability to achieve self-sufficiency with emphasis on older adults, the Jewish community, and our hometown communities of Maryland, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and Hawaii.

In the following pages, the Foundation has identified

selected grants of $50,000 or more that were

approved and distributed within Maryland during the past three years. During that time, the Foundation

approved nearly 300 grants totaling $102.5 million. Of the total funds approved, $64.7 million has been

paid to date.

Here are a few highlights:

The Weinberg Foundation has

Developed and initiated Together We Care: Making Maryland ? by 2020 ? the Best Place to Grow Old. The ultimate goal of this effort is to provide a "no wrong door" approach in Maryland to a variety of services and supports for older adults. To date, the Weinberg Foundation has provided $4.4 million in grants to build the framework for this initiative that will create a model of comprehensive care allowing more older adults to age with dignity and independence.

Launched Baltimore City's Early Childhood Initiative and Better Together, which seek to ensure children enter kindergarten healthy and ready to learn. Since 2011, the Weinberg Foundation has committed a total of $20 million to increase access to early childhood education in Maryland. Over the next three years, $4.6 million of these funds will enable an additional 650 children and 900 families in Baltimore to receive high quality early childhood education and family support services by 2017.

Promoted youth literacy by supporting new and renovated libraries in Baltimore City Public Schools. The Foundation has committed $10 million to create up to 24 new libraries as part of the Baltimore Elementary and Middle School Library Project. A total of nine Weinberg libraries are already open, as of September 2014, and serving more than 5,000 students.

Supported Baltimore City's Journey Home plan with the priority of making homelessness rare and brief. The Weinberg Foundation has awarded a grant of $2

The Maryland Small Grants Program (MSGP) is intended to help smaller nonprofits more easily and efficiently apply for funding. Maryland organizations with an annual budget under $3 million a year are eligible to apply for an initial grant of up to $50K for two years ($100K total). Funding for additional years may be available. In most cases, it takes only 50 days to go from "Our application is enclosed" to "Your check is in the mail."

The MSGP program also includes the Weinberg Foundation hometown community of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Since its inception in 2007, this program has provided more

than $22 million to hundreds

of Maryland and Northeastern Pennsylvania nonprofits.

million to support the renovation of Sarah's Hope, the largest shelter for homeless families in Baltimore. The renovation will increase the number of beds and includes an on-site early childhood education center for children ages birth to three. The Foundation also has awarded a grant of nearly $1.5 million over three years to St. Vincent de Paul to expand rapid rehousing for homeless families in Baltimore City.

Helped to expand critical services for children with disabilities by awarding an $8 million grant to support the extension of Kennedy Krieger Institute's existing Weinberg Outpatient Center in Baltimore. As part of its portfolio of 300 active grantees in the disabilities field in the US and Israel, the Foundation funds programs that help people with physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities, including autism and those who struggle with psychiatric difficulties. Of all these grantees, Kennedy Krieger serves the largest number of children at the earliest possible age.

Equipped people to achieve economic self-sufficiency by funding programs that provide the tools to obtain and keep employment and progress on a career track. One example is the Center for Urban Families in Baltimore, which provides employment training through the STRIVE model, and other programs, to low-income individuals so that they may achieve stability and economic success.

Strengthened our hometowns through grants to umbrella organizations that distribute funds for direct services within the Foundation's priority areas. These organizations include Associated Black Charities, Associated Catholic Charities, Inc., The ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, and The United Way of Central Maryland, Inc. Funding to these organizations alone over the past three years has totaled nearly $13 million.
