Conflict Writing ExerciseNow that you are able to recognize the four major types of conflicts found in literature, it’s time for some analysis. Choose one of the prompts below in order to write a well-formed, organized, three-paragraph essay. (300 words or less). Write legibly, or type on a separate sheet of paper. Be sure your paragraphs begin with a topic sentence. Your topic sentence should express the main idea of your paragraph. You may choose to reword the prompt in your first paragraph (like a thesis statement). The body of your essay (the second paragraph) should support your topic with details from the story, similar to the details you would use if you were diagraming this plot progression. In your last paragraph, you should draw conclusions about the conflict within the story. This is where you close the essay by summing up your ideas and possibly making connections to things outside the story. Check for grammar and spelling. Use variety when developing sentences. Richard Connell’s protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, battles a host of natural obstacles on his way to Ship-Trap Island. Once there, nature is a constant threat to Rainsford. Develop a three-paragraph response that explains how “The Most Dangerous Game” is an example of man’s struggle against nature. You may want to include how Rainsford is able to use the natural environment to his benefit. Be sure to include how this conflict is resolved. 2. When asked about his philosophy on hunting at the beginning of the narrative, Sanger Rainsford says, “ Who cares how a jaguar feels?” Later in the story, he feels like the “mouse” being hunted by the “cat,” General Zaroff. Perhaps Rainsford’s struggle is internal. Perhaps his attitude about hunting must change. Develop a three-paragraph response that explains how “The Most Dangerous Game” is an example of man’s struggle against himself. You might want to include how the discourse between Whitney and Rainsford compares to the discussion between General Zaroff and Rainsford. ***If you quote the text, use MLA format. Since there are no page numbers on the pdf found on Weebly, you may cite your quote by simply putting the authors name in brackets (Connell). ................
