A. Grammatical Objectives: The fourth grade curriculum is designed to review and reinforce the cursive handwriting skills learned in the previous grade. Review: 1. Consistently demonstrate neatness in handwriting 2. Correct way to hold pencil 3. Correct posture for writing 4. Paper positioning for cursive handwriting (for right and left- handedness) 5. Beginning points for each upper and lower-case letter 6. Basic strokes for traditional lower-case cursive handwriting (slant, under stroke, down stroke, over stroke, flag stroke, and backward oval) 7. Basic strokes for traditional upper-case cursive handwriting (slant, under stroke, over stroke, "candy-cane", backward oval, backward loop, backward under stroke, and forward loop "flag") 8. Which upper-case letters connect to the rest of the word and which do not connect 9. Correctly connecting cursive letters to one another 10. Uniform shape, slant, size, and spacing of traditional style cursive

B. Grammar Teaching Methods: 1. Daily use of The Art of Cursive Handwriting workbook to review and practice cursive letters 2. Daily use of written work to assess handwriting skills 3. Large group modeling of The Art of Cursive Handwriting style 4. Use of cursive model worksheets for practice of spelling lists

C. Primary Texts and Materials: 1. The Art of Cursive Handwriting traditional cursive workbook ? Intermediate Level
