• assignment book
• current text
DO NOT come unprepared to class or you will receive a strike. Three strikes will result in a detention.
CLASS RULES
1. Arrive to class on time and prepared. Failure to do so will result in a strike.
2. Respect yourself, respect others, LISTEN and contribute. Class discussion must be conducted in a mature manner. Do not speak when another is talking, do not interrupt or distract, and personal attacks are forbidden.
3. RAISE YOUR HAND!
4. Only one student is allowed out of the classroom at a time. Pass books and sign-out sheet must be filled out before leaving. No one enters or leaves the classroom when a student is presenting.
5. There will be no other course work done during English class.
If one or more of these class rules are broken you will be held accountable. Your name will be written on the board and you will receive a detention. The only way to be excused from this detention is to earn it! Correct the misbehavior and become a model student for the remainder of the class period. If inappropriate action continues after the first warning, further action will be taken.
GRADES
Your grade will be determined by the total points earned divided by the total points possible for the marking period. "Bonus" points will be awarded throughout the semester as extra credit. You may schedule a conference with me at any time during the marking period to review and discuss your grades. Your grades will be based on the following:
HOMEWORK
Homework will be checked daily by assigned homework monitors. Homework monitor sheets are in the class folders and are checked according to row. Homework check will occur at the beginning of class. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points and will be factored into your overall grade. LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! Homework will be posted daily on my website at rhs-crombie..
VOCABULARY
Vocabulary lists will be assigned every Monday. A vocabulary quiz and assignment will be due EACH FRIDAY.

• Underline each vocabulary word
• Number each sentence
• Each word is spelled correctly
• The correct part of speech is used for each word
• The sentences clearly illustrate the word's meaning
Additional points may also be taken off for mechanical errors.
Vocabulary Quiz
You are expected to know the correct definition, part of speech, spelling and possible synonyms or antonyms of each vocabulary word assigned for that week. Upon absences, all vocabulary quizzes must be made up within two days of returning to school

Throughout the year you will be assigned various projects or presentations to complete. These may or may not include group activities. All projects and/or presentations are expected to be completed on time.
QUIZZES/TESTS/STUDY GUIDES
Quizzes, tests, and/or study guides may be assigned to ensure that you are keeping up with your course work. You will be given at least one week notice before an exam. Quizzes may or may not be announced.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS
All assignments (homework, papers, projects, etc.) are expected to be turned in by the due date.
Homework
Homework will not be accepted late.
Writing assignments
• Writing assignments must be handed to me in person. DO NOT LEAVE A PAPER ON MY DESK OR HAND IN A CD/DISK. Papers may only be emailed to me if you are absent from school or if you are given permission to do so.
• Each assignment will be stamped with the day that it was turned in. Assignments must be turned in on time! Assignments will be deducted a letter grade for each day it is late (ex. a “B” paper that was turned in 2 days late will receive an “E”).
• Technology issues – please keep in mind that computer/technology issues are not an excuse for late work. However, if a technology issues arises, please bring in a signed note prom a parent/guardian explaining the issue.
Presentations
If you are assigned a day to present, you are obligated to be in class on that date. Failure to present on the day you were assigned will result in a "0" for that presentation.
MAKE-UP WORK
If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to get the work you missed (Please note that if you are dismissed early from school because of a sport or other reason, you are still expected to hand in assignments due that day and get the work you will miss). Get notes from a classmate and check your class folder for any handouts/assignments that you missed. You have 1 day for each day absent to make up work until the assignment is considered "late". Absences are not excuses for late writing assignments, projects or presentations that were previously assigned. Quizzes and exams must be made up within two days of returning to school. A student who chooses not to make up a quiz/test within this time frame will receive a "0" for that quiz/test.
CHEATING/PLAGIARISM POLICY
Plagiarism and cheating is a serious breach of the student honor code. Any student caught cheating or plagiarizing will receive a “0” for that test/assignment. And a referral form will be submitted to the office. Cheating/plagiarism includes copying another student’s work, allowing another student to copy from your work, and/or copying work from a book, magazine, etc. without proper citation. All major writing assignments must be submitted to to check for plagiarism.
Please sign the attached form to verify that you have received and understand the above polices and expectations. Please share this packet with your parent/guardian and have them sign below as well. I am looking forward to a very successful and fun year with each of you! And remember, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela
