The shi shi mai dance is often seen at temple and shrine festivals at New Year's. Join members of the neighborhood Choeizan Enkyoji Nichiren Buddhist Temple as they bring the blessing dance to The Wing and bless our hall and building.

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION & FAIR

Celebrate Lunar New Year with a day full of activities for the whole family! A lion dance will bless The Wing with their vibrant and energetic spirit from 10?10:30AM. Then take a passport journey through the Museum, create crafts with local artists, learn about the Asian zodiac with our stuffed animal petting zoo, and win prizes and more!

ANNUAL NEIGHBORHOOD FESTIVAL

Celebrate the Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area's Lunar New Year festival in the neighborhood. Free

Lunar New Year day this year is Saturday, January 25th.

The Chinese and Vietnamese Zodiacs are represented by 12 animals. According to legend, the Jade Emperor invited all animals to enter a long race and the first 12 to finish would each rule a year every 12 years.

Each zodiac animal brings its own personality and characteristics to the year. Can you imagine what a rat year might look like?

Rat years: 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, 2032

COLORING CONTEST RULES Contest begins Wednesday, January 1 (10am), deadline is Tuesday, March 31 (5pm). All entries MUST be submitted in person at Wing Luke Museum by participating child to be eligible (NO EXCEPTIONS). Limited to one entry per child. Each child who submits an entry receives free Museum Experience upon submission; their parents receive ? price admission. ? Only children ages 12 and under are eligible to win prizes. Entries will not be returned. ? Winners will be selected via public online voting on Facebook between April 11?22 ? The Grand Prize is the "Seattle Attractions Experience," (valued at over $700) includes family passes (2 adult, 2 child) to each of the following: MoPop, Seattle Art Museum, MOHAI, a $50 gift card to Tai Tung Restaurant, $35 gift card to Dochi, $25 gift card to Go Poke, four tickets to a 2020 Sounders FC match, and a year-long Patron-level Membership to the Wing Luke Museum. Runner Up #1 will receive family passes (2 adult, 2 child) to the Seattle Aquarium, Museum of Flight, and Ride the Ducks of Seattle. Runner Up #2 will receive family passes (2 adult, 2 child) to the Pacific Science Center, Seattle Monorail, and Future of Flight. Runner Up #3 will receive family passes (2 adult, 2 child) to Seattle Children's Museum and the Woodland Park Zoo. ? Judges will evaluate entries according to the following criteria: 30% originality, 30% creativity, 40% overall impression ? Twelve entries will be chosen -- three from each of the four age groups: 0?3, 4?6, 7?9, and 10?12. ? These entries will be put to public vote with one Grand Prize winner and three runners-up ?
