Printing To The Poster Printer in the BME Dept:

Printing To The Poster Printer in the BME Dept:

Before you print:

The printer is now located in the copy room in the BME Whitaker Administrative Office, room 701 in 44 Cummington St. The office is open weekdays from 9am to 5pm. After you walk through the office door, the copy room is directly to your left.

To Print to any department printer you must have an AD account.  If you do not have an AD account please see the Account Applications page to apply for an AD account.

Once you have an AD account send email to bme-poster@engit.bu.edu with the following information:

1) Your BU username

2) The grant number to be charged ($30 per full-size page)

3) The number of posters you need to print

4) Your Primary Investigator's name

5) The name of their center or lab

Convert you poster to a .pdf file (The PDF file does not have to be large dimensions--it is actually easiest if it is just 8.5x11").  To convert to pdf purchase Adobe Acrobat writer or Download the free Cute PDF writer.

 How to print:

1) Log onto any Windows computer that is on the BU Active Directory system and to which you have privileges to add printers. Go to control panel-->printers --> add a new printer --> network printer --> find a printer in the directory and type in "BME-Whitaker Poster Printer" and hit "find", and you can select it. Do not make it your default printer, and do not print a test page.

2) Open the .pdf file with Acrobat Reader. Do "file --> print..." and select the BME-Whitaker Poster Printer.  Go to the "properties" dialog within the print dialog of your program, and in the lower right-hand corner under "quick sets", select "36x46.6" poster.

This will scale up an 8.5x11 inch page perfectly to fit on the 36"-wide paper. Do NOT use the "Scale To Fit" button--you will use the scaling features built into Acrobat itself. Click OK.

Set the Page Scaling property to "Fit to Paper"

Make sure that the page you see in the preview window says that its dimensions are the correct size. Select "fit to paper" and uncheck and check again "auto rotate and center" to update the preview window and make sure the dimensions are correct. Any white space at the top or bottom of the preview window will be automatically cut off by the poster printer.

If there are other borders or something in your PDF that you do not want to print, you can select the tool that looks like a camera in the Acrobat Reader 6 toolbar, and use that to outline the "selection" that you want to print.

Click OK to print. Then go retrieve your poster from the Whitaker copy room in the Whitaker administrative office, room 701, 44 Cummington St. Please wait 30 minutes before rolling your poster--the ink tends to smear even after the 5 minute drying time that the printer imposes. The copy room is just to your left as you walk through the glass door. The office is open from 9am to 5pm.
