ABM Software Installation Instructions

***Prerequisite: Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 If you don't have it installed, then download and install using Windows Updates from Microsoft's web-site.

Follow the installation steps below to install the software:

Note: If you are using Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista you will need system administrator rights

to your workstation in order to install ABM.

Note: This installation will install Microsoft ADO version 2.6 and. Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 on your

computer. If you already have Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 you may choose not to install it.

STEP 1

Close any Windows applications you are currently running.

STEP 2

Installing From the Customer Support Site

Download the installation from Blackbaud Customer Support site using your assigned user name and password. To install, double-click on the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen.

Installing From the CD

Insert the PowerPlan CD. The CD will automatically start the installation process. If not, press the Windows Start button, select Run, and then click the Browse button. Select your CD drive, search your CD drive until you find Setup.exe, highlight Setup.exe, click on Open, and then click OK. Follow the instructions on the screen.

STEP 3

On the Welcome screen, click Next. On the Software License Agreement screen, click Yes if you agree with the terms of the License Agreement. The Information screen summarizes the installation process. Click on Next. In the User Information screen, enter your Name and Company. Enter number 1 in the Serial box, and then click on Next.

STEP 4

In the Choose Destination Location screen, accept the default folder or use the Browse button to select a different folder. (If you already have ABM installed, and are updating from a previous version, you may overwrite the existing version of PowerPlan during this installation.) Select Next.

In the Setup Types screen, select from the following:

Typical ? All users other than System Administrators should select Typical installation. It will install PowerPlan and PowerMart (as well as two demo databases).

Custom ? System Administrators should select Custom installation in order to install PowerSet, PowerLink and the database conversion utility.

Click on Next to continue.

If you chose Custom in the previous step then the Select Components screen with the custom installation options will appear. Several boxes should already be checked. Included should be:

PowerPlan ? box should be checked

PowerMart ? box should be checked

PowerSet ? box should be checked

PowerLink ? box should be checked

Database Conversion Utility ? box should be checked; used for loading scripts provided by PowerPlan

Report Books ? New module for version 5.19.20. Tool to consolidate outside documents with PowerPlan reports for production of budget books.

Select/de-select the desired components, then click on Next.

STEP 7

In the Select Program Folder screen, select the default program folder or change the name, then click on Next.

In the Start Copying Files screen, verify your settings and click on Next.

STEP 9

The installation will ask if you wish to back up the current DLLs, which will be overwritten during installation. If you have enough space, click Yes. It will create a PowerPlan subdirectory in your Windows System directory. You can delete this directory later, after checking that all the programs are working OK after installation.

STEP 10

The installation will begin. When the installation is complete, the Setup Complete screen will appear. Click on Yes to restart your computer, and click on the Finish button.

UPDATING THE DATABASE

If you have just installed a newer version of ABM, you will now need to update the existing environment databases in order to access them through the version of ABM that you have installed.

For instructions on updating the database, refer to the "Updating the ABM Database" document located in the Download area of the Blackbaud website.

CONNECTING THE CLIENT TO THE SERVER

Included are instructions for connecting to the ABM database for SQL Authentication followed by instructions for connecting through Windows Authentication.

SQL Authentication 1. To connect to the ABM database as a SQL Server (Non Administrator) User:

a. In SQL Server Management Studio, right-click on Security Option, select New and then click Login.

b. After Login screen opens, create a Non-Administrator User as shown below. The SQL account created will be used to set the client connection to the server in Step 2:

c. Provide rights to the ABM Database for the SQL account.
