i. OSHA Employee Right to Understand (ERTU) info MDRO/C.difficile overview of how germs can transmit
ii. Isolation Precaution signs and definitions
iii. Donning and Doffing return demonstration
iv. Preliminary room audit results (if done) and evidence for increased attention to high touch surfaces
v. Principles of cleaning and disinfection
1. Introduce importance of saturation

b. Environmental Services Topics introduction (1.0 hour)
i. “Top to Bottom- Cleaning Occupied and Discharged Patient Rooms” Video (10 min)
ii. Brief walk through of MHA Environmental Services Cleaning Guidebook

1. Carts and set up
2. Microfiber mops and use

1. Routine disinfectants manufacturer required contact (wet) times
2. Bleach or sporicidal disinfectants/wipes and use

i. Walk though daily occupied room clean procedure including what to clean when and cloth/rag changes between patient room and bathroom

i. Walk through terminal room clean procedure including what to clean and cloth/rag changes between patient room and bathroom
ii. Terminal room clean for C. diff patient rooms (sporicide product, UV technology- if used in facility)
iii. Review Terminal Room Cleaning short and detailed forms (from Environmental Cleaning Guidebook)
4. Written Exam (15-20 min)
5. Practicum Session (1.5 hour for practicum session)
a. View daily room clean (12 min)
b. View terminal room clean (25-30 min)
6. Environmental Services Training Certification
a. New employees and Initial Assessment of Competency
i. Attendance classroom training (including practicum session with observation of daily and terminal room cleaning)
ii. Pass written exam on classroom content
iii. Pass 2 daily clean observations conducted by site EVS manager or designee within 4 weeks of classroom training.
iv. Pass two UV gel assessment of terminal clean with minimum 80% success on high touch surfaces within 4 weeks of classroom training
v. Continued observed audits of practice
1. Direct observation: Each employee will be observed cleaning a discharge and daily clean once yearly.
2. UV gel testing: Each employee will have a minimum of one room checked annually.
b. Re-training
i. Employees who fail audits of practice will receive retraining.
ii. Continued failure to meet requirements will lead to corrective action.
c. Annual Training and Recertification
i. Employees will receive annual training that will include review of basic cleaning concepts and ongoing issues identified through observational and UV testing audits of practice.
ii. Successful attendance at training session and written exam is required for recertification.
