World Behind the Text: A long time ago a man named Jesus lived on earth. He is very special as he is God’s son. Jesus came to let people know of God’s love for them and to show them how they can live happily and safely for the good of all. Jesus told lots of stories which are found in the Bible. One story is about a person who was hurt and the people who passed him on the way. I wonder if someone will stop and help the hurt man? Students discuss. The first two people made a bad choice in not helping the injured man. The third person made a good choice. Jesus told this story to help people know that they should love others, even those they do not know or like. How would the man feel when he had been robbed? How do you think the man felt when the priest didn’t stop to help? Who helps you when you are hurt? World Behind the Text: Jesus moved from town to town telling people about how much God loved them and one day he was travelling in a place where he met some who were sick. They had a disease called leprosy which meant their skin hurt them as it had sores. These people were not wanted in towns as others might catch their skin disease so they were sad to be away from their families and friends. Jesus healed them of their illness and they were able to be with others again. Jesus was a healer who could help people who were ill. World Behind the Text: Jesus was placed in a tomb after he died on the cross. His friends and family could not visit the tomb until the next day. When they arrived they had a big shock. Discuss the feelings of the characters involved. What amazing thig happened? World in Front of the text:Discuss-Did you know that this is the most important story in the Church, because it stopped Jesus’ friends and family being so sad, and they began to realise that Jesus’ spirit was still with them in some way? They began to realise that this was not a sad story, but an amazing story. They began to realise that God wanted them to keep doing the work that Jesus had been doing. They began to realise that when a person passes away, it is not the end of their life but the start of a new life with God. We don’t understand how it all happens, but people of faith trust and believe that the spirit of Jesus is still with us today, and the spirit of people that we love will always be with us, even after they have passed away. The friends and family of Jesus began to understand that God’s love is stronger than anything bad that can happen. We will never know what really happened at the resurrection, but it doesn’t matter what really happened. The important thing is what it means for people now.
