Admissions & Records provides comprehensive admissions/registration services for all credit students. This office also processes student requests for transcripts, enrollment verification, general education certification, and graduation evaluations.

ASPIRE Program

on campus? The African American Student Program Inspiring Responsibility for Education (ASPIRE) is designed to provide support necessary to increase academic success. Students are matched with a mentor and attend various cultural, social and academic events throughout the year.

Mt. SAC requires new students to complete English, reading, and math placement tests at this office. This office also offers the Chemistry placement test.

Bookstore – “SacBookRac”

The SacBookRac is the College bookstore. It provides new and used books for your classes. In addition to textbooks, general trade and paperback books, snacks, greeting cards, school supplies, computer software, and gifts are also available. You may also sell your books for cash.

Bridge Program

Are you the first in your family to go to college or just a bit intimidated by the idea of college? This program is designed to increase your academic and personal success by creating a unique environment between students, professor, counselor and critical resources on campus. Students participating in the Bridge Program are enrolled in linked or clustered courses that are taught in a cooperative environment between professors.

Bursar’s/Photo I.D. Office

This is an important office to visit in the final steps of the registration process. Here you can pay for your enrollment, student activities fee, materials, and health services fees, as well as obtain a refund

for credit classes. You can also receive a student photo identification card here that can be used to access college services.

Transfer Services helps students get from Mt. SAC to anywhere! We offer a variety of services, activities, events and resources to help students solidify their career goals. The center is the hub for transfer information and services for students who desire to transfer to a four-year university. The center's transfer services and resources include:

• Workshops on career and transfer topics;

• University representative visits and appointments;

• College fairs;

• University tours;

• Walk-in transfer advising;

Looking for a part-time job or career employment? Career Placement Services is the place to start. Whether it is finding a part-time or full-time job, we are here to help you reach

Counseling Courses:

COUN 1 – Introduction to College

(1 unit) Degree Applicable, CSU

Introduces students to the culture of higher education. Includes orientation to college life and an in-depth exploration of higher education resources. Also included are student rights and responsibilities, college policies, professor and college expectations, as well as graduation and transfer requirements. Students will explore factors influencing educational decisions and will develop an effective educational plan.

COUN 2 – College Success Strategies

(3 units) Degree Applicable, CSU, UC

Assists students in evaluating their readiness for a successful college experience. Explores strategies and techniques to be an effective college student, including time management, study skills, college resources, career exploration, and educational planning. Develops skills necessary to reach educational and career goals.

COUN 5 – Career/Life Planning

(3 units) Degree Applicable, CSU

Designed to help you know more about yourself and to acquire skills in meeting life’s challenges. Various inventories will be included to assist you in your understanding of your abilities, interests, values, and personality as well as practical techniques in how to market yourself, both in writing and oral format.

COUN 7 – Introduction to the Transfer Process

(2 units) Degree Applicable, CSU

Introduction and orientation to the transfer process to a four-year institution. Includes an in-depth exploration of transfer requirements, admission procedures and requirements for majors. Also explores academic and support services, financial aid and other transitional issues to enable students to make informed choices on majors and four-year institutions and in academic planning. Field trips are required.

COUN 51 – Career Planning

Designed for students who want assistance in making career decisions. A variety of assessments, inventories, and computer generated career information will be used in analyzing your potential in the world of work.

COUN 54 – Single Parent Academy

Develop personal, educational, and career life planning skills for single parents.

Disabled Student Programs and Services, (DSP&S)

If you have a disability that interferes with your educational success, or think you may have one, register with DSP&S. They provide students with programs and services based on disability related needs. Students with verified disabilities have access to an adaptive computer lab, specialized instruction, sign language interpreters, note-taking services, priority registration, and many other accommodations based on the individuals needs.

Self-evaluation including interests, experiences, personality, values, and disability-related limitations as they relate to educational and career decisions. Identification of skills and resources, including those that relate to disability factors. Students who repeat this course will improve their skills through further instruction and practice.

DSPS 16 – Educational and Career Exploration Options for Students with Disabilities

Students will identify educational and career options. Emphasis is on strategies that facilitate disability-sensitive career and educational planning. Barriers to employment and other disability issues are addressed. Students who repeat this course will improve their skills through further instruction and practice.

DSPS 30 – Academic Success Strategies for Students with Disabilities

Strategies for academic success in relationship to disabilities are explored. Primary emphasis will be on the effects of the strategies for auditory processing, language expression, memory, fluid reasoning and performance speed. Secondary emphasis is placed on strategies to improve subject-specific performance. Students who repeat this course will improve their skills through further instruction and practice.

EOP&S

Being the first in your family to attend college, or being financially disadvantaged may be concerns that shouldn’t keep you from succeeding in college. EOP&S services are designed for students with academic and financial disadvantages. Support services provided to qualified students include: counseling, grants, book services, educational planning, peer advising, and tutoring.

CARE

The CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) Program is a support program for EOP&S students who are single head of household parents receiving CalWORKs.

CalWORKs

Provides educational/training assistance to students who receive public assistance through TANF, including self-initiated participants, (SIPs), and GAIN referrals.

Adult Re-Entry Services

Those students 25 years of age and older wishing to return to college can find assistance at this office. Specialized workshops and career classes are offered to help you focus and achieve academic and career goals. Also, specialized job placement assistance and counseling are available.

Financial Aid Office

Visit the Financial Aid office to find out for what types of financial assistance you may qualify. They provide applications for financial aid and processes the following: federal grants/loans/work study, state grants, scholarships, short-term loans, and the Board of Governors Fee Waivers. A Scholarship Specialist is available to help you with scholarship questions and concerns. If you are a veteran, you may also qualify for additional services.

Health Services

Good health is essential for academic success. Health Services provides medical, nursing, psychological, and first aid services to all credit students. Also provided are health education services, immunizations, medications, chiropractic services, and lab services. Students must be currently enrolled and attending classes to qualify.

Learning Assistance Center, Tutorial Services (LAC)

Struggling with math, science, writing or any other subject? The LAC can offer tutorial services to assist you! Tutoring in all subjects is offered at no cost to currently enrolled students. No appointment necessary.

Learning Assistance Center, Learning Lab

Don’t have access to a computer or the internet at home? The LAC Lab offers students free use of PC and MAC computers. All computers are internet accessible and are connected to the Mt. SAC Library databases. Software includes word processing, spreadsheets, Power Point, and tutorials on various subjects.

Provides a foundation for life-long learning that promotes greater self-awareness and success. Academic success strategies include text management, time management, listening, memorization, test-taking, note-taking, oral and written communication, use of campus resources, and research methods.

STDY 85A – Test-Taking and Stress Management

A single purpose course designed to support learning in either an academic field or in a vocation. Provides support in understanding how the brain functions and applying that knowledge to test-taking and stress management strategies.

STDY 85B – Note-taking and Listening

READ 65 - Speed Reading: Methods and Applications

Designed to increase reading speed, while maintaining comprehension of college-level material. Improves concentration and recall. Develops flexibility in reading rate.

READ 70-Improving Reading Comprehension

Prerequisite: Satisfactory score on reading placement test

Introduction to reading comprehension, and vocabulary strategies. Introduction to self-awareness of reading capabilities.

READ 80-Developing Reading Comprehension

Prerequisite: READ 70 or Satisfactory score on reading placement test

Further development of reading comprehension and vocabulary strategies including self-awareness of reading capabilities.

READ 90 - College Reading Preparation

Effective use of critical reading in a cross-disciplinary framework. Emphasis on the development of critical reading skills of interpretation, analysis and evaluation of academic, business and technology readings.

Math Activities Resource Center (MARC) &Transfer-MARC (TMARC)

The Math Activities Resource Center (MARC) and Transfer-MARC (TMARC) offer services including free tutoring, study spaces, tutorial software, and calculator rentals. The MARC serves students in Math 50 to Math 71, whereas the TMARC serves students in Math 100 or above.

MATH 96 – Strategies for Math Success

This course covers perspectives, understandings and strategies to utilize a learning system for acquiring, understanding, remembering, and producing mathematical knowledge. Student Life at Mt. SAC is here to provide opportunities for all registered credit students. This program serves as the heart of campus life where students are able to connect with their peers in a comfortable and supportive environment. Information regarding student government, clubs, student leadership, activities transcripts, campus activities, student complaints, discount amusement park and movie tickets, and student conduct policies can be provided and handled. Assistance dealing with grievance and due process procedures, sexual harassment, and resources for social services needs are also provided. This is also where you might find your lost items on campus.

This center is open to all registered students and provides a relaxing and enjoyable environment that includes board games, table tennis, foosball, high definition TV, free wireless Internet, and a housing referral program. This is also a good place to take a quick nap or clear your mind between classes.

Veteran’s Service Center

Veteran’s Services is available to assist you and your eligible dependents with all matters relating to veteran benefits. The Veteran’s Services office is located next to the Financial Aid Office.

Writing Center

The Writing Center provides writing tutoring for students currently enrolled in any Mt. SAC course. This center offers help with brainstorming, revising your papers, grammar editing, tutoring, and proper use of documentation styles. Workshops on improving writing, research techniques, timed writing tips, and essay writing are offered for free throughout the semester. Internet access is also available. No appointment necessary.
