ADJOURNMENT2nd Vice President Candiate Tim Smith StatementI would like to be considered for the position of the PNAHA Vice President #2 for the east side of Washington State.? I feel my years of playing the sport of hockey on the levels I have, my years of?experience of coaching the sport of hockey as well as serving the last 5 years as the Vice President and Head Disciplinary Chair for the Tri City Amateur Hockey Association has made me an excellent candidate?for this position.? During my time as the Vice President of TCAHA, I have reported to the current East Side Vice President Rob Azevedo.? Rob has mentored me over these years and I have got to work with the current PNAHA board of directors over this time. I would love to be a part of what I feel is an exceptional group of people and would like to share my love and passion for bettering our youth hockey?programs throughout the state.? I appreciate the consideration and look forward to the challenge.?Sincerely,Tim Smith:President Candiate Jody Carpenter Statement:TO: PNAHA Associations and Directors I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jody Carpenter and I am running for President in the upcoming PNAHA election. I have a long and diverse business career that I feel has set me up for success in running first class organizations.Professionally, I own the largest drilling company in Eastern Washington, Carpenter Drilling LLC. Under my leadership, the company grew from one operator/rig to six operators and a tenrig operation. Our company has performed successful projects in every state in the pacific district excluding Alaska. Over the years we have developed a great team, which has given me the freedom to dedicate time to activities supporting USA Hockey. We have an amazing opportunity to develop our state into the premier athletic option for Washington youth. This goal will not be easy and will take a considerable amount of fortitude from all of our associations. Why am I the person to spearhead this goal? My passion started, I assume like most of you, with my child falling in love with hockey. That lead to me channeling my efforts to support our local association as a coach, eventually progressing to Coaching Director. That position gave me the ability to develop strong programming with guidance and mentorship from USA ADM Regional Manager Joe Bonnett and USA Hockey. Together, we were able to change the culture from an association focusing time on one small group at the younger ages to an association striving to develop all the players at all ages. The culmination of these years of efforts has been very rewarding. I recently saw evidence of success when our 14U Tier 2 team placed 3rd at the 2021 USA Hockey National Tournament. With 8 of the current players on this team wining the title the year prior at 14U. However, that season was cut short due to the pandemic. The training and philosophies that USA Hockey provides have been revolutionary, which is why they are considered to be world leading and followed closely by many youth National Governing Bodies. Now that I have been through the process and have watched the development decisions that parents make, I want to help Associations develop programs that grow the game internally, building thriving youth hockey affiliates. I feel we need to develop a love of the game approach that benefits all the kids in our great state. When I was appointed TCAHA Coaching Director, my hockey experience was player/parent/ coach. The first thing I knew I had to do was find training and resources to help me with this new position. I sought guidance from USA Hockey, who turned me on to the Hockey Director Certification course (NARCE). This program provided me with the blueprint to help develop our internal coaches and provide them with tools to develop our competencies on ice. In addition to attending NARCE twice, I continue to participate in a monthly Zoom call with premiere hockey leaders from across the country. We consult, share and trade ideas with leaders from clubs such as the Dallas Stars, Las Vegas Jr. Knights, Phoenix Jr. Coyotes, Hyland Hills, and Ontario Reign to name a few. These leaders share in-depth discussions regarding current issues in youth sport as well as topics specific to youth hockey such as club culture, club structure, player development, psychological trends, physical literacy, player recruitment and marketing. I also attended the western regional high-performance camp. These activities have given me the ability to develop relationships with USA Hockey so if there are questions that are currently unknown, I am sure I can find a resource out there to assist with finding the right answer. I have had two roles with PNAHA. First as a representative for my local Association and currently as the ADM Director on the east side of the state. These volunteer positions at the state level have been very rewarding. We clearly have a dedicated group of people who want what’s best for the entire state and to see this great game grow for all. I feel with the amazing people I have met throughout the state, we can improve on our information resources and delivery, and make sure our handbook is clear and well defined. Once these structural issues are in place we can focus on what is best in PNAHA, the development of the next generation of hockey players. I look forward to continuing giving back to the great game of hockey and would appreciate your vote as PNAHA President on June 19th, 2021. Please feel free to reach out to me via cell at 503-810-6713 for a more in-depth discussion of any questions you or your association may have.Thank you for your time, Jody CarpenterPresident Candiate ROb Azevedo Statement:5/17/2021TO: PNAHA Affiliates and voting members.I would like to welcome all of you to the 2021/22 hockey season. I, Robert Azevedo, PNAHA 2nd Vice President, would like to ask for the nomination and vote to be your PNAHA PRESIDENT for the next two-year term.We have just experienced one of the most challenging seasons that PNAHA and USA Hockey has ever experienced. Not only did we have closures of our facilities due to the Covid Pandemic with a very slow return to play, we also experienced the passing of our close friend and PNAHA President Dru Hammond. Her leadership was greatly missed as we moved forward with the season. A special thanks to Robby Kaufman for stepping in as interim President and everyone that worked so diligently in salvaging this season.Although the season was shortened, I was very encouraged last month as I visited the state tournaments and festivals. All the host venues provided a special experience for the players of all ages to participate and compete this season. I especially noticed the depth of development at the festival levels 12u and 10u. I commend the efforts by the Metro League, as that format has proved to be a successful model at the recreational levels. The Metro League must also be acknowledged as the driving factor in PNAHA being able to have a season that culminated in year-end festivals.Looking forward it would be a privilege to be your PNAHA President. I see great opportunity in future growth potential due to the welcoming of the Seattle Kraken. We should all be prepared to catch the wave of new players wanting to experience hockey in the coming years. In my conversations with the Kraken, I believe that their plan is to build organically from the ground up, while partnering with PNAHA Affiliates in growing the game throughout the state. In discussions with other Pacific District Affiliate Presidents regarding Tier I hockey, it has become obvious that PNAHA should address what Tier I model best suits and serves our affiliates. I believe that a Tier I Task Force should strategize and bring a proposal to PNAHA. One that aligns PNAHA with USA Hockey and develops players at all levels Recreational, Tier II and Tier I.Many of you may realize that Female Hockey is a high priority for me. Seeing the talent and increasing numbers of female players 14 and under in our state is quite exciting. I look forward to your support in providing female programs throughout the state.I have been very fortunate to serve youth hockey within our state for many years and at many levels. I felt that my time on the SAYHA board as VP and then being their association representative to PNAHA gave me great perspective as to the needs at the affiliate level. Using that knowledge, I accepted the position as PNAHA 2nd VP. Although I was the representative forthe east side of the state, I would challenge myself to understand the needs of the association on both sides of the mountains. I especially appreciated the opportunity working the PNAHA State Development camp at an administrative level.I have enjoyed the times that I have shared with you and all my hockey families, while creating new hockey relationships. Providing quality programs for our players, coaches and members is always a priority. I feel that my past experience and duties will benefit PNAHA as the next President.Thank you for your time and consideration.Robert Azevedo ................
