Established in 1971 to assist families and individuals experiencing financial difficulties, Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) is a division of Family Service of the Piedmont, a local United Way member agency.

How CCCS can help:

People run into financial difficulties for a variety of reasons. A lack of financial planning or little understanding of one's options can quickly lead to financial challenges. At CCCS, our purpose is to increase financial knowledge and assist families in solving current financial problems. Through these efforts we can help you achieve your financial goals and regain a sense of financial well-being.

CCCS offers:

? Budget/Credit Counseling: Nationally certified counselors provide free professional advice on money management, maintenance of your credit report, and using credit wisely. Online counseling services available.

? Debt Management Plan (DMP): A low-cost viable alternative to bankruptcy in which creditors may reduce payments and reduce or stop interest and fees. Provides a consolidated way to pay creditors and become debt free within 48 to 60 months. Online counseling services available.

? Housing Counseling: HUD?approved housing counseling services include:

? Pre-purchase Homeownership Counseling: A free service to assist you in developing a personalized plan that explores options and resources to achieve homeownership.

? Post-purchase Homeownership Counseling: A free service to ensure successful homeownership through effective budgeting, equity preservation, and safeguards to protect your investment.

? Foreclosure Prevention: A free service to help homeowners who are past due with their mortgage determine the options available to avoid foreclosure.

? The NC Foreclosure Prevention FundTM: If you have lost your job or your income has been reduced the NC Foreclosure Prevention FundTM can pay your mortgage while you seek or retrain for new employment, or facing a temporary financial setback, such as divorce, serious illness, or death of a co-borrower.

? Reverse Mortgage Counseling: A service to assist homeowners 62 or older. Information is provided on the benefits, costs, and responsibilities of using this resource to access equity in the home. Fee charged.

? Bankruptcy Counseling: US Court-approved service that provides counseling on the options, alternatives, and consequences of bankruptcy. Approved to issue a certificate in compliance with the bankruptcy code. Online counseling services available. Fee charged

? Budget Workshops: Free workshop that provides skills on goal setting, evaluating, tracking expenses, managing debt, and saving money.

? Credit Workshops: Free workshop to help individuals understand the importance of credit. Participants learn about their credit report, how to establish and maintain credit, credit scoring, and how to dispute credit report errors.

? Home Buying Workshops: An HUD certified 8 hour homebuying educational workshop which addresses the important aspects of the home buying process. CCCS educational staff and expert speakers discuss budgeting, credit, locating a home, shopping for a home and closing your first mortgage. 8 Hour HUD home buyer education certificate is provided.

? Pre-discharge Bankruptcy Education: A 2 hour US Court-approved workshop that teaches participants how to regain their financial health following bankruptcy. Pre-discharge certificate provided. Fee charged.

? Financial First Aid: Free workshop to help individuals who are experiencing a lay-off or reduction of hours. It covers budgeting on a reduced income, credit responsibilities and priorities, how to talk with creditors and mortgage companies, predatory lending alerts, and community resources.
