I love to watch students grow and learn throughout the school year! Academics are important, but third grade is a crucial year in developing organizational habits, responsibility, and study/homework routines. I have very high expectations for my students. I believe this will help them rise above and beyond. Hard work and perseverance make great things happen! Third grade can be a challenging year for many students, so mistakes do happen! Mistakes provide wonderful opportunities for growth, self-reflection and learning. Respect, empathy and responsibility are also very important components of our classroom. Respecting others and property are essential to a healthy and vibrant classroom community. As children get older, it is important that they become responsible for their actions. Finally, YOU are an important part of our classroom! Your support is greatly appreciated!! It is going to be a wonderful year!! Students will also have small competitions among table groups and small groups. Sticking to Good ChoicesStudents will get three popsicle sticks every morning. They may receive additional sticks throughout the day for making outstanding choices and showing leadership habits. I especially love seeing behaviors that reinforce being a “H.A.W.K.” I will also be collecting sticks from students that are making choices that prevent themselves and their classmates from doing their best. If your child loses a stick, they have the opportunity to earn it back throughout the day!Student are responsible for recording the number of sticks they have collected throughout the day and getting it signed by me! Students may receive treats, coupons or privileges based on the number of sticks they have at the end of each week. I collect the behavior charts at the end of every quarter. Students need 80% (3X total # days in the quarter) to attend the C.E.S. END OF THE QUARTER CELEBRATION. Please check your child’s planner every night to see how they are doing. The number of sticks that they have at the end of the day will be recorded. 5 = Excellent day! 4 = Great day! 3 = Good day! 2 = OK day 1= Needs work 0 = Tomorrow will be a better day! Brag BeansBrag Beans are a whole class incentive. When the entire class shows extraordinary behavior, gets a compliment, etc. they will receive a “Brag Beans”. When our Brag Bean Jar is full, we will have a party for the class during lunch. This may involve brownies, popcorn, candy, etc. Some things don’t merit losing a stick, so tickets will be used throughout the day. There will be consequences such as loss of tickets for not turning in homework, having planner signed, etc.00I will be using sticks for individual behavior and “Brag Beans” as a whole class incentive.
