Dear Applicant:
Below you will find the application for the NYSAFLT James E. Allen Distinguished Foreign Language Program Award complete with requirements and suggestions for submitting your application. This award recognizes and honors outstanding foreign language programs throughout New York State. One school district or school within each of NYSAFLT’s five regions can be selected annually for the award. Winning programs will be recognized at the NYSAFLT Annual Conference in October. In addition, one regional winner will be selected as a state-wide winner each year, and will also be recognized at the conference.
The selection committee takes into account the size of the district, number of languages offered, number of students taking languages, extra-curricular programs, public relations, teacher participation at local and state professional events, etc. We are especially looking at unique ideas for providing motivation and relevance for our students in the current context of events impacting LOTE. In the pursuit of these ideas, applications requirements encourage creativity and individuality in how you present your department for the award.
Completed applications must be submitted online along with scanned student work and/or other digital supporting. Please upload all application materials to a Google Drive folder and share that folder as “can edit” with info@.
Unless otherwise posted on our website, the application deadline is April 1.
For any further information, please contact NYSAFLT headquarters at info@.
Thank you for your interest in the James E. Allen Award, for showing pride in your foreign language program and for taking the time to offer deserved recognition. Districts or schools that are selected for this honor become role models and incentives for others, thus enhancing foreign language study throughout New York State and beyond.
Sincerely,
John Carlino
NYSAFLT Executive Director
