CENTER FOR FAMILY RESOURCES

CFR assists clients with rent, utilities, transportation, and food. Holiday assistance

available. Offers employment counseling, GED classes, and literacy classes. Referral to

transitional shelter & short term housing for homeless. ONE-TIME HELP AGENCY FOR

MAJOR ITEMS. Must have Social Security card, birth certificate for all household members

and picture ID.

CENTER FOR FAMILY RESOURCES (GED)

A sub-site of Cobb Adult Basic Education, classes are designed to meet the needs of the

non-traditional student. Classes are offered in the afternoon and evenings. Students work

at their own pace individually with a tutor or in small groups. Programs are offered in the

evenings to enable working parents to attend. Child care is offered at no cost to participants

of our programs.

CHATTAHOOCHEE TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Offers day, afternoon, evening and Saturday classes for a variety of Associate Degree,

Certificate and Diploma Programs. Offers Continuing education and Intense English

course. Campuses also located in Marietta, South Cobb, Woodstock, Acworth and

Paulding. GED or High School diploma required. GED testing offered at various campus

locations.

COBB COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER

The CCSD Adult Education Center offers classes in Basic Reading, Language and Math,

GED preparation, GED Testing and English as a Second Language. Minimum age for

registration is 16 and students cannot currently be enrolled in a high school program

COVENANT HOUSE OF GEORGIA (SHELTER)

Co-ed shelter for homeless teens 18-21 years of age (15 beds). Will pick up teens who call

and need a place to go. Also operate 26-bed Rights of Passage program (apartments) for

teens. Will do GED testing and job search/placement.

JOB CORPS, DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

An education/job training program for teens, 16-24. Program offers a GED or high school

diploma and job skills training. After completion, will assist with finding work, pursuing

further education or a military career. Must have 11 high school credits and be income

eligible. No felony record or pending criminal charges, and must be drug free. Most

participants live in dorms. Food, healthcare and a small alliance are provided. Could be

placed out of state. Cash bonuses given for achievements.

NORTH METRO TECHNICAL COLLEGE

Dual enrollment or certificate programs for high school students. Can take GED test here.

Best to have a high school diploma or GED for admission (can enroll and take classes

which working on GED). Must be at least 16 years of age. Financial aid is available. Offers

Continuing Education, GED preparation and other certificate and degree programs. Hope

"grant" (not scholarship) will pay for most programs and often books. In order to qualify,

must not have any felonies or have defaulted on a student loan.
