Installation Guide

Overview A customer can securely erase the data, files and operating system from any drive using the Drive Wiping software. This section is designed to introduce and walk through a standard Drive Wipe. The typical drive wipe will involve some simple step-by-step procedures.

Learning Objectives By the end of this module you will be able to: Describe the features of the drive wiping software. Perform a drive wiping assessment on any computer. Complete an installation of the drive wiping software. Perform two different drive wipes.

Drive Wiping Assessment

WipeDrive is a secure cleaning software. Please make sure you intend to overwrite your hard drive and files before running WipeDrive.

WipeDrive offers 13 different wipe options. These options cover the most basic single overwrite to the French Governments 13 overwrite. Please answer these questions before proceeding: ? Do I have any Security Requirements for this wipe? ? Do I want to completely erase my hard drive? ? Have I backed up my important files? ? Do I have the correct Operating System installation CDs?

If you have successfully answered these questions, please continue with the installation of WipeDrive.

Application Wiping The WipeDrive 5.0 version completely erases all programs and the operating system. Users will have to use their original installation CD if they would like to reinstall the OS or a program. If users would like to keep their programs, it is recommended they run WipeDrive SystemSaver. SystemSaver will erase all files and user accounts, but will leave the operating system and programs intact.

Drive Wiping Software WipeDrive? allows a secure drive erasure of email, music, photos, files, folders, and more from any hard drive or jump drive. WipeDrive allows multiple wipe selections, so data can be erased to specific requirements. WipeDrive will securely erase all data.

WipeDrive will erase all of the following types of files: System Documents Archives Multimedia Email Database and Financials Trojans, Spyware, Malware

System Requirements In order to run this software the computer must meet the following requirements:

CD Installation The drive wiping process will begin by installing the drive wiping software. The user may install from the CD or from the download link. The software installer is designed only for Windows installations (it is not Mac compatible). Below are the step by step instructions for installing the software from the CD and from the download link. Please note: The demo version will only wipe 25% of the drive.

Warning: WipeDrive will securely erase your hard drive.

Install from CD

Step 1 Insert CD into appropriate drive. Once the Welcome screen appears, click WipeDrive. Proceed to Step 4 on page 8-5.

Install using Online Installer

The drive wiping process will begin by installing the drive wiping software. The user may install from the CD or from the download link. The software installer is designed only for Windows installations (it is not Mac compatible). Below are the step by step instructions for installing the software from the CD and from the download link. Please note: The demo version will only wipe 25% of the drive.

Warning: WipeDrive will securely erase your hard drive.

Online Installer

Step 1 The drive wiping tool can also run from the online installer. Follow the link in your confirmation email to go to the WipeDrive download page. To download the installer, click "Click here to download for Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, Server, and Vista (124 MB)".

Click Save File to download the installer to your desktop.

Step 2 Double-click the "WipeDriveInstaller.exe" icon on your desktop or right-click and select "Run".

Step 3 The User will then go to an OpenFile ? Security Warning window. Click "Yes". Proceed to Step 4 on page 8-5.

Step 4 WipeDrive will now boot to the Activation Code window. Enter their activation code from the back of the CD sleeve and click Next.

Step 5

WipeDrive will then ask you what drive(s) you want to wipe. You can select your drive or if you want to wipe all your drives, select All Drives.

Step 7 A message will warn that WipeDrive will completely and securely erase your entire drive. Click Next to continue the wipe.

Step 8 WipeDrive will then copy the necessary files to your hard drive.

Step 9 Once all of the necessary files have been copied, WipeDrive will prompt you to restart your computer. Click Restart.

Step 10 After rebooting, the computer will go to a black and white DOS menu asking to choose Windows or WipeDrive. WipeDrive should already be selected. If it is not, use the arrow keys to select WipeDrive and then press Enter.

Step 11 WipeDrive will then go through a verbose boot with a large amount of text on the screen.

Step 12 A caution message will warn that there will be no recoverable information from the wipe. Press Y and Enter to continue to the wipe.
