The areas that will be covered in this course are: Personal Development and Relationships, Challenging Times, Personal Finances and Consumerism, Free Enterprise, Interior Design, Child Care, Food and Nutrition, and Textiles Technology. . COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATONSStudents should come prepared to learn and participateStudents should be prepared with a notebook and pencil every to class.Students will be require purchase a basic sewing kit and a plain white pillow case for this course. A list will be provided of items to bring with you to class. If you have any questions or concerns about purchasing the items, please contact me via e-mail at the address above. Complete all labs, samples and written assignments. Come prepared to participate and be an active learner. Take and pass the state competency test at the conclusion of the course.Students are expected to follow school rules and policies and procedures set out for this course. This includes NO CELL PHONES and NO BACKPACKS in class.There is a $15 fee for this course which will go to supplies for all of our fun projects. Fee can be paid to secretary in the main office and upon receipt your grade will be updated. HOMEWORK: Students will be assigned homework when needed.PURPOSE OF GRADING: The purpose of grading is to communicate with students and parents about the achievement and mastery of specific learning goals. It identifies students’ levels of progress with regard to those goals, areas of strength, and areas where additional time and effort are needed. Parents will be notified if a student begins failing. Parents are encouraged to monitor student grades online through Skyward. Please contact the counseling center for your user name and password. GRADES: At CMMS we have moved to Standards Based Grading. This means that the majority of your grade will be determined by your mastery of skills and objectives. Participation in this hands on course is most important. Student grades will be determined as follows, and this is determined by Standard Mastery.70%: Labs, Sewing Projects, Group Projects15%: In Class Assignments15%: ParticipationLATE WORK: Late work will be corrected, scored, and then receive 50% of the points earned. ABSENT WORK: If a student is in class when an assignment is given, but absent when it is due, the assignment should be turned in the day the student returns. After that, it will be considered late.For assignments missed during absences, the student will be given as many extra days as were missed.
