Message from the B.C. Government

The face of British Columbia is changing, and it's changing quickly. The population is growing, aging, and becoming more diverse than ever before. This is good news ? it means we're living longer, healthier, more active lives. It means that B.C. continues to attract the best and the brightest from across the globe. It also means that we must be prepared to meet these changes head-on.

In the coming years, for the first time in B.C. history, seniors will outnumber children in the province. The B.C. Government has taken a leading role in planning for this transformation. We've engaged in ongoing consultation with seniors and seniors' organizations so we can focus on their highest priorities. We're supporting communities and businesses to become more age-friendly. We're working to make sure that seniors, their families, and caregivers have access to information about the programs, services, and resources they need. And we're raising awareness of how important it is to look to the future ? now, whether you're 45 or 65 ? and start planning for healthy aging. You'll find questions in each section of this guide to help you begin.

The Families First Agenda for Change provides the context for our work to support healthy aging in B.C. The four main components of this agenda ? creating wealth, empowering people, modernizing our approach to healthy families, and building safer communities ? including a focus on preventing and ending elder abuse ? will benefit seniors, their families, and all British Columbians.

Together, we can build a stronger, healthier, more age-friendly British Columbia.
