Hosted by 3P Learning, MLMC is Canada’s FREE annual math event that leads up to the World Education Games held the first week of March each year. During the MLMC, students across Canada compete for points earned for questions answered correctly. Awards are given to the top scoring students, the top scoring classes and the top scoring schools throughout Canada.When is the Maple Leaf Math Challenge Held?Registration to the MLMC is now open for all new and interested students across Canada. The Warm Up period commences on November 12, 2012 and runs through November 19, 2012. During the Warm Up period, all registered students and current Mathletics users will have access to the MLMC website to prepare and practice for the official Challenge, taking place November 20 through to 11:59 p.m. EST on November 21, 2012.Why Participate in the Maple Leaf Math Challenge?Because it’s fun! Students are motivated to do math in an engaging way. Students can also join others across Canada in the quest to become official MLMC Ambassadors. The Challenge takes place over two days, with each day focussing on a different element of mathematical skill and knowledge. It’s free, it’s fun and there are prizes! Is There Anything I Can Do to Spread the Word?Absolutely! Join other students from across Canada to become an Ambassador for the MLMC and spread the word to all other students, teachers, principals and members of your community. We will be selecting participants from across Canada to become Ambassadors in each province. All students in Canada are eligible to become an Ambassador. How Can I Become An Ambassador?All students who are Canadian residents are eligible to participate and be considered for this significant role. To become an Ambassador, students across Canada must submit a letter or video explaining why they would be the best overall Canadian MLMC Ambassador.One MLMC Ambassador in Canada will be selected to represent Canada as an Ambassador in the next Challenge – the World Education Games in March 2013. All entries must be submitted to 3P Learning by 12 Noon MST, on November 9th, 2012. Selection of provincial Ambassadors will occur on November 16th, 2012.What Happens After I Have Been Selected as an MLMC Ambassador?If you’re one of the lucky students across the country granted this significant role for your province, you will be the face of Mathletics. Once selected on November 16, 2012, and until December 14, 2012, all Ambassadors will be responsible for sharing their experiences in the third annual MLMC. Experiences should include how the event has contributed to their love of learning math.Here are some of the Ambassador duties from November 16–December 14, 2012:BloggingMLMC Ambassadors will show off their skills by writing blog posts for the Mathletics blog. Blog posts may include: favourite elements of the MLMC, experiences playing math activities during the competition, successes in learning mathfun stories relating to the MLMCexperiences participating in this year’s MLMC. Please email your draft posts to Shari-Lynn.Sare@. And don’t forget to send us photographs or screen shots of your MLMC mania that will appear alongside your blog post. Photos should be emailed in a .jpeg format and be related to your post.VideosMLMC Ambassadors can be featured on the official Mathletics YouTube Channel, perhaps working on activities or in a live math challenge with students from around the world. Ambassadors can video themselves dressed up as their Mathlete and explain how the MLMC has motivated them in math and helped their math skills improve. These fun videos will also be featured on the Mathletics blog, along with the Mathletics Facebook and Twitter networks.Write a Letter to a Politician Writing a letter to your Member of Parliament (MP), the Prime Minister, or another elected representative to convey your passion for math education and ways the MLMC has sparked that passion. Ambassadors will have the opportunity to talk about their participation and Ambassador Role in the third annual MLMC, and how this significant event is the lead up to the World Education Games in March 2013. Did you know just one letter to an MP is considered to represent the views of 100 people?Media OpportunitiesMLMC Ambassadors may by contacted by the media.
