Installing the Firefox Browser

Pre-requisite: You need to be a self-managed user in order to install software on your UWS computer. If you are not a self-managed user, contact the IT Service Desk and request to become self-managed. Supervisor or managerial approval for such requests is no longer required.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Go to the Mozilla website using Internet Explorer.



2. Hit the green Firefox - free download button to start downloading the browser’s setup file.

3. A box will pop up prompting you to save the file. Do not change the name of the file, set it to save to your desktop, then click on Save.

4. Another box will pop up asking you whether to run or save the file, select Save.

5. Double click on the Firefox Setup.exe file now visible on your desktop to start the Setup Wizard. (Please note the version number may change with time).

6. Follow the prompts to install the browser. First, click on Next.

7. Make sure Standard is chosen as the Setup Type (it should be by default), then click on Next.

8. Check that Firefox is set to install in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (again, it should be by default) then click on Install.

9. Firefox will now start installing and will progress to the final screen when done.

10. When the final screen shows up, select Finish, and the Firefox browser will open immediately.

11. Go back to your desktop and a shortcut to the browser should be available to access the browser again. If not, you can create one.

12. Your Firefox installation and setup is now complete. You can delete the Firefox Setup.exe file from the desktop.
