Stella-Marie Edith Brown Born May 6, 1962, was the youngest child of Claude and Audrey Brown. She was raised on the family farm near Marlbank and attended Selby Public School and Napanee District Secondary School. Stella-Marie loved sports and was on all the girls’ teams. Her employment led her to Toronto, Belleville, Selby and then Cobourg. It was there that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Even while undergoing exhausting chemotherapy she drew on her unbelievable inner strength and went back to school, graduating with honours as a medical secretary. She chose a position at Baycrest Hospital, Toronto, and then moved to Oshawa to be closer to her work. Her hobbies included drawing and painting and she often designed gifts for her family and friends. Over the years she taught herself, and became very proficient at, piano, guitar, banjo, 12-string guitar, electric guitar, flute, drums and harmonica. Her talent and love of music enabled her to compose, arrange, play and sing numerous songs. For many years she played and sang lead in two bands, and often performed at weddings for family and friends. In 1983, she became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was very active in the ministry until the time of her death. Visitation was July 10th at Wartman’s Funeral Home and the memorial service was held on July 11th at the Napanee Kingdom Hall with Dennis Bell officiating. Internment of her ashes at Riverview Cemetery, Napanee followed. She is sadly missed by her parents and her siblings Terry and Peter Richardson, Dorothy and Charles Bell, Connie and Katsu Sakuma, and Andrew and Charlotte Brown. She was predeceased by infant brother William Lawrence. She is greatly missed by her nephews, nieces and great niece. VALENTINE _ In loving memory of Dorothy, a loving and cherished wife of Worden Valentine, sadly missed forever by pre-deceased infant son, Robert Douglas in 1945, mother of Sylvia Hodgins (Lee), Marilyn Walker (Wendel), loving grandmother of Kevin Walker (Anne), Terri-Lynn Knapp (Rob), Blake Hodgins, Bonnie Hodgins, and great grandmother of Hannah, Jake and Eli Walker, and Jenna, Cameron and Gregory Knapp. For two years, her courage and perseverance with ALS which moved her slowly to a Heavenly Home, on October 26 2002, at Lennox and Addington County General Hospital. Her amazing courage with never a complaint gave inspiration to all who cared for her daily needs. We met 64 years ago and for 62 years of a wonderful marriage we respected each others thoughts and wishes. I treasure 26 winters in Florida and 14 cruises which added memories of places afar. She spent her last years in her home she loved so much, and for me, I feel so blessed that I was able to care for her. She always regretted the extent of my efforts to give her rest and comfort. Her love and care for me she always showed by an upraised hand, that everything was OK, and she indicated to me each evening, (Worden, it’s Happy Hour), a time to sit and rest awhile while I play bridge or solitaire on the computer. The family has a high regard for Dr. Alkenbrack who cared for Dorothy as a patient and a friend. Dr. Alkenbrack and Dr. Melanson with all their skills knew that her days with us would be short, much shorter than we all had hoped. She left her worldly home in a calm and peaceful manner. As I held her in arms, her upraised hand meant Yes. A short time before her passing she asked for a writing pad and the last word she wrote was (UP). Sincere thanks to CCAC, Life Line, and dedicated VON nurses who arranged their nightly visits, Red Cross Support, SOS and Hospice volunteers. I must make a special mention of a fine gentleman, Graham Christie, her first VON on May 4, 2001 and the last VON to give his utmost help to give her help and peace of mind before going to Napanee Hospital at 11:00 p.m. on October 25, 2002. Thanks Graham, from a grateful family. The beautiful floral arrangements and Memorial Donations show deep respect and regard for a wonderful and gentle person and a lady. I give sincere thanks to the eight pallbearers and to Reverend Marjory MacMartin for her sincere words and thoughts about Dorothy after two visits with her. The ladies from Trinity United Church did a remarkable catering service for those who returned from Riverview Cemetery to enjoy refreshments and convey last words of comfort and condolences to me and my family. -So sadly missed by Husband, and all family members.057914

William Glenn Smith On Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, William Glenn Smith of Brockville peacefully reached The Other Shore as, with family by his side, his daughters softly sang to him the words of The Gospel Ship: "Gonna sail that gospel ship ’cross the river deep and wide, Gonna sing in that heav’nly choir on the other side, And on that great, great day I’ll leave my troubles all behind, When I sail that gospel ship across the river deep and wide." Treasured by Mavis Ellen (nee Brooks), his wife of 63 years, loving Father and Father-in-law to Heather Knack of Saramac Lake, N.Y. and Peter Knack of Louisville, Kentucky and Holly and John Welch of Lyn, Ontario. Born on June 12, 1918 in Kingston, Glenn attended Zion United Church where he and Mavis met at Young Peoples’ in 1935. Glenn’s family was his major focus in life. Glenn and Mavis were among the founders of the Swingin’ Saints square dance club and in their later years remained active in line dancing and Tai-Chi. Glen was an avid reader, a skilled miniature-furniture hobbyist and an enthusiastic fisherman enjoying the sport with his son-in-law John. He and Mavis had recently returned from a fall vacation in Muskoka. Glenn’s life was remembered and celebrated on Tuesday, November 19 at the Barclay Funeral Home with the Reverend Roland Glendinning officiating. Grandson Chris and his close friend Nicole Dunsmore sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow, a favourite, meaningful to both Glenn and Mavis. The grandchildren’s remembrances of their Granddad were recounted by Hillary. The gathering was graced by The Riverside Singers’ rendition of The Gospel Ship and two favourite hymns were sung by the congregation "Son of My Soul" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Bearers accompanying Glenn’s remains were John Welch and Peter Knack, Hillary, Darcie and Chris Knack and Nicole Dunsmore. His ashes were committed to burial at Oakland Cemetery.
