Grantee Cover Letter - Wellness@Work Template
To Healthy Communities Grantees: July 2011
As many of you know, Oregon Health Authority has been working with a group of businesses and health experts to develop a worksite wellness initiative. Our work is culminating this month with the launch of a terrific website that contains a free online tool to help businesses assess their current wellness profile and identify easy steps to take, plus media outreach to engage businesses. Please help spread the word in your local community.
Background:
Originally formed by Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski as the Governor’s Wellness Initiative, this project has grown into a robust initiative called Wellness@Work. It includes:
• A new website launching July 11: wellnessatwork. This is a valuable resource to help employers of all types and sizes assess their wellness needs, modify sample policies and create a doable, step-by-step wellness program.
• A series of Action Forums with businesses, chambers of commerce, schools, hospitals, health insurers and others to regional worksite wellness strategies. Some of you have helped with forums in Central Oregon and Southern Oregon.
What we’re asking you to do, beginning July 11:
• Talk this up in your community, using the enclosed talking points. The goal is to make sure every employer knows about and visits the website.
• Help identify local success stories of businesses that are getting results with wellness programs. Use the enclosed storytelling tool to help. You can use these with local media and also feed them into the website at wellnessatwork to build the library of case studies.
• Place stories with your local media.
o Customize the enclosed news release and distribute it to your local newspapers, radio, TV and online media, along with the fact sheet.
o Follow up with a pitch, using the pitch points document.
o Approach your local newspaper editorial board using the enclosed editorial board pitch and talking points.
o Find a local community member to customize, sign and submit the enclosed op-ed.
• Add the Wellness@Work badge to your website to help spread the word, and ask local employers and partners to do the same. Just visit wellnessatwork to grab it!
