|Why Use Technology? | | |
| | | |
|Studies show that technology in the classroom is a powerful tool for | | |
|learning and comprehension. In our classroom, we would like to expose| | |
|the students to meaningful experiences with technology. This will | | |
|help to motivate students and allow them to learn and share their | |We are excited to begin using Raz-. Raz-Kids is an |

|areas including math, reading and writing. | |Students can record themselves reading using a microphone and then, |
| | |send this recording to the teacher’s inbox. For every book read, |
| | |students earn points and are able to use these points to build their|

|iPads | | |
| | | |
|Our class has the privilege of having an iPad to support our learning.| | |
|Students can use the iPad during Learning Centre time to explore a | | |
|variety of apps that encourage literacy, numeracy, higher-level | | |
|thinking and problem solving skills. | | |
| | | |
|We also use our iPad to take pictures of our learning inside and | | |
|outside of the classroom! | | |

| | |IXL Math – In Class Account |
| | | |
| | |In addition to our online reading program, we will begin to use our |
| | |online math program to support and build our math skills. IXL |
| | |offers math practise questions at the kindergarten level. Students |
| | |complete practise questions and earn medals, as well as build |
| | |confidence as young mathematicians. At home, you can utilize the |
| | |free trial which will allow 20 questions per day. |

|Tips on how to use technology effectively with your child: | | |
|Introduce one or two activities/apps per week | | |
|Play and talk with your child as he/she plays the games (e.g., let your child ask | | |
|questions, answer your questions) | | |
|Make sure your child finishes one activity before moving on to another | | |
|Begin at your child’s level (e.g., begin by teaching your child the letters in his/her | | |
|name) | | |
|Set a time limit on your child’s access to technology | | |
|Remember, technology does not teach children, the interactions they have while engaging| | |
|in activities is what promotes learning. | | |
|HAVE FUN! | | |
