staff and graded on a 4.0 scale for each game. Only teams with an average of 3.0 or higher may participate in the playoffs. See the “Sportsmanship Policy” for more information.

Playing Rules:

1. The deeper 3-pt line is the check line. In ANY change of possession, the ball must be taken beyond the check line (including steals, air balls, and blocks).

2. The ball must be “checked” in order to begin play of any game, OT, or after a timeout, foul call, or stoppage of the game. Also, after each “check” teams must pass to another teammate before scoring.

3. Ball possession changes hands after each made basket.

4. Game officials will call the game, and Rec-Sports staff will track team fouls and score.

5. Fouls: All common, personal, and technical fouls shall count toward a team’s total foul count. On/after a team’s 7th foul, a one-and-one (if the foul shooter misses the foul shot the ball is live, but if they make it they get a second free throw) situation is awarded to the opponent; on/after a team’s 10th foul, two free throws will be awarded to the opponent. Technical/flagrant fouls always result in 2 foul shots and retained possession.

Prior to the 7th team foul:

a) any common foul shall result in loss of possession for the offending team.

b) any offensive foul shall result in disallowing a converted basket and loss of possession.

c) any shooting foul with a missed basket shall result in retained possession.

d) any shooting foul with a made basket shall result in counting the basket and change of possession.

On and after the 7th team foul:

a) in all non-Technical free throw situations, the ball changes possession on a MADE final free throw.

b) any common foul shall result in a foul shot.

c) any offensive foul shall result in disallowing a converted basket, loss of possession and free throws.

d) any shooting foul with a missed basket shall result in a two or three shot foul.

e) any shooting foul with a made basket shall result in the basket being counted and a free throw awarded.

6. Players may not foul-out, however Rec-Sports staff have the right to eject individuals if deemed necessary. In such a case, the ejected player may be replaced.

7. Shots made from behind the deeper 3pt line are worth 3 points, any other shots (other than foul shots) are worth 2 points.

8. Games are 32 minutes long, running clock, except for the last minute of play the clock will be stopped for any dead ball situations i.e. fouls, foul shots, out of bounds. Teams will play two 16 minute halves with a 2 minute halftime break in a 45 minute time slot. If score is tied at the end of 32 minutes, a 3 minute OT will be played. Teams only need to win by 1 point.

9. Teams are allowed two timeouts per game.

10. Substitutions: Subs may enter after a made basket, foul, or any stoppage of play.

Expectations:

1. Teams will show up on time to each match and notify the other team/RS office in advance if they plan to forfeit.

2. Teams will play within the rules of the game, as established by Messiah College Rec Sports.

3. Teams will treat each other with respect and resolve disputes in non-confrontational ways.

4. Teams will respect the RS staff and game officials as the decision making authority in charge of running their contest.

5. Teams may issue any complaints/comments with the RS Supervisor at the end of the contest and in a respectful manner, so they can be resolved quickly and necessarily.
