FREE "NET TUTOR" FOR ALL LACCD STUDENTS BEGINS AUG. 26, 2019

LOS ANGELES--All new and returning students at the nine colleges of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) can receive FREE academic tune-ups on a variety of subjects that are just a mouse-click away beginning August 26, the first day of the 2019 Fall Semester.

Did we mention this is free for LACCD students?

Yes, free NetTutor online assistance will be available for LACCD students when they go through the District's online student portal. If the portal is not already bookmarked on a student's computer, laptop or mobile smart devices, they only have to type in "MyCollege.laccd.edu" into their internet browser to access the special icon for NetTutor online beginning Aug. 26, 2019. Tutoring will be available for English, Math, ESL, Statistics and FYE classes.

"This is a great service that the District is providing free to all of our students," LACCD Board of Trustees President Andra Hoffman said. "The best part about NetTutor is that it's accessible 24/7!! Oftentimes, our students study or do homework late at night, so NetTutor is available on their schedule when they need a little help. Of course, we'll also continue with in-person tutoring during regular campus hours throughout the year because we want our students to succeed and to have the best higher education experience we can provide."

As long as students go through their LACCD student portal, there is no cost and no additional account registration. Just click on the NetTutor "online tutoring" button to open the program and then select the subject from the menu. Whether a student needs five minutes or 30, NetTutor will be accessible 24/7/365, however specific times for live tutor sessions may vary and will be posted per subject.

Registered students at all of the District's nine colleges--Los Angeles City College; Los Angeles Harbor College; Los Angeles Mission College; Los Angeles Pierce College; Los Angeles Southwest College; Los Angeles Trade-Technical College; Los Angeles Valley College; East Los Angeles College and West Los Angeles College--will be eligible to receive the free service.

Ryan Cornner, Ed.D., the District's Vice Chancellor of Educational Programs and Institutional Effectiveness, said LACCD is using NetTutor as part of a statewide effort by community colleges throughout California.

"We're making this easy and intuitive for students. They go to the student portal, click on the icon and they're up and running with NetTutor," Dr. Cornner said.
