Guidelines and Entry Form 2020
GUIDELINES
The Festival:
The 2020 Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) will take place at venues across Scotland from 4th -24th May 2020. Led by the Mental Health Foundation, the festival aims to support the arts and challenge preconceived ideas about mental health.
The Competition:
The SMHAF writing competition is managed in partnership with Bipolar Scotland. It provides opportunities for both new and established writers to produce new work exploring mental health in diverse ways.
This year's theme for all categories is "PERSPECTIVES". This can be interpreted in any way you choose - the limit is your imagination. There are three categories:
• FICTION: Short stories between 500 and 2000 words.
• POETRY: Poems up to 40 lines.
• CREATIVE NONFICTION: Creative prose with a factual basis, between 500 and 2000 words. Examples can include diary entries, autobiographical writing, personal essays and literary journalism.
The closing date for the competition is midnight on Sunday 1st March 2020. We cannot accept any entries received after this date.
