Your final evaluation should be word processed on the following document. You should evaluate against each of the learning outcomes below writing between 100 – 250 words for each. You should ensure you evaluate both preparatory and final work and both in terms of reflecting on final outcomes in relation to the original proposal, and areas of strength/development identified. You should also make links with individual progression pathways and career aspirations. This analysis must include a written element and may also be communicated in audio or video form, but will need to be thoroughly planned and coherently expressed. Consider the following questions and use the checklist sheet to help you map your work against the learning outcomes:What was the context/theme of your work? How have you developed this theme? How have you maintained this throughout this project? If your direction has changed how and why? What underlying principles have inspired this work? What subject knowledge have you developed and how has this supported your development and understanding? How has your research helped develop this body of work? What did you investigate to support this body of work? What contextual sources have you explored? How did primary source material help inform your practice? What academic sources have you explored? What ethical issues have you negotiated? What cultural sources have inspired you? What materials and processes have you explored and why?How did these working methods relate to the theme of your project? What specialist skills have you developed? How have you adapted your practical exploration as the project developed? What has inspired the aesthetics of your work and how have you achieved this? How have you demonstrated an imaginative and flexible approach? How have you explored practical working methods to solve complex problems in order to realise a creative project? How have you investigated theoretical and academic sources to solve complex problems in order to realise a creative project? How has your technical understanding supported the resolution of complex problems in order to realise a creative project? How have you adapted to unforeseen challenges in the realisation of your creative practice? How have you evidenced your planning process? How has your planning supported the timely success of this body of work? What did you have to personally negotiate in the planning process? How have you been responsible for your own learning? How has reflection and analysis supported your development and planning?Have you achieved your aims within the set time frame? How did evaluation and reflection support you achieving your intentions practically? How did evaluation and reflection support you achieving your intentions theoretically? How did evaluation and reflection support you achieving your intentions aesthetically? How has your personal critical analysis, reflection and evaluation supported this body of work, your decision making and informed your own learning? What techniques have you employed to develop your reflective skills? How have you explored and researched potential presentation methods? How have these taken into consideration/communicated with your intended audience? Why did you select your final presentation method? How did this take into consideration the context of your work? How did this communicate the narrative of your work/creative practice employed to your intended audience?Name Eva Mackenzie Candidate NumberL.O. 1 Initiate and develop a creative project proposal using a range of critical and contextual perspectives and approachesFor the Final Major Project I decided to investigate individual’s memories and favourite things. I wanted to move away from just portraiture, which I explored in the previous Unit 2 project, and illustrate other media. I developed this theme throughout the project with a series of investigative interviews with peers, alongside visits to galleries/museums and research on the internet and books. This allowed me to broaden my ideas and introduce me to potential mediums, which could be used to change my ideas from thoughts to a physical representation. To maintain development throughout the project I frequently used apps such as Instagram and Pinterest to ensure I was surrounded by new ideas, artists and inspiration. As the project progressed I also considered ethics and audience which influenced how my project developed, by forcing me to consider factors including how my piece would be received and interpreted by an audience, who my audience would be, and how ethically moral my project is. Due to a multitude of contributing factors the direction of my project changed throughout practice. Initially I hope the final outcome would be a hybrid of traditional media such as small pen illustrations mixed with digital projections of a looping gif. As the project developed it became apart that the projection would not work as planned, as with multiple tests I found the space in which the work would be exhibited was not suitable for such a piece. Despite the changes in outcome, the underlying principles remained the same. I wanted to understand what people value most in the new technological world and whether values such as memories were still as important to people as now phones and technology are. Through carrying out this project I have not only learnt more about the changing ways in which people value and view their personal belongings over their life experiences, but have also gained a deeper understanding of the continuous line drawing style and a more experienced knowledge of sewing and free machine stitch.L.O.2 Use research, analysis and evaluation to develop ideas and solutions for a creative projectResearching for this project provided me with artist reference across disciplines, which enthused me to create my own pieces as a part of the project by taking influence and ideas from each artist. Not only that but researching different medias and materials enabled me toe explore mixed media outcomes for the project and ultimately allowed me to produce a completely three-dimensional final piece. To support my body of work I investigated artist that worked with a similar theme to my own through the internet, books and personal visits to galleries and museums. As well as researching artists and materials as a part of my project I also explored the ethical repercussions that my project could potentially have. I understand that peoples personal memories and belongings can be a sensitive and private topic. Therefore I only interviewed willing candidates and through model consent forms I only used their information within my work after gaining full consent from each individual. If any model had have wished for their information to be kept private I would not have used them in the body of work or would have not included their face/name in the investigative project. The main inspiration culturally for the project was the current world in which we live in. As a young adult it is hard to escape the fast growing technological culture, Therefore it is the modern culture, the 21st century that inspired me most for this project.L.O.3 Use appropriate methods and specialist skills in the realisation of a creative projectFor this project I wanted to create a mixed media piece, therefore I used a multitude of different materials, methods and techniques. These included, folding paper, card, tissue, illustrating onto different materials such as acetate, cloth, different papers, illustrating with wire, masking tape, free machine stitch, as well as creating my own materials out of pva glue, cellotape and melted plastics. The different methods related to my project as they were the structural grounds for the illustrations of the memories/things to go over. The materials helped the illustrations turn from doodles and drawings to fashion illustrations and garment designs. However as expected, some materials will inevitably work better than others, for example the pva glue method wasn’t as fitting to the project as the cellotape translucent material. Because my project ended up being so textile/fashion based I developed a more specialised skill of free machine stitching and now feel much more confident than when the project first started out. Mainly my own personal style/taste inspired the aesthetics of the projects. Personally I prefer outcomes to be quite simplistic with muted colours, Both Annakik and Edda Gimnes aesthetics are similar to my own and therefore had a large influence over the aesthetics of the project and the final outcome. Through multiple experimentation and exploration of different ideas and potential outcomes I feel the project has forced me to have a flexible mind-set as well as allowing me to be more imaginative than usual as the final piece didn’t turn out as anticipated, I quickly had to redirect the project.L.O.4 Integrate practical, theoretical and technical understanding to solve complex problems in order to realise a creative projectThroughout the project I worked inside the studio space at college, meaning the projections I had initially planned to include in the final piece were not feasible in the exhibition/studio space as the room was too light for the projection to show up clearly. In response I change the final outcome to work without the projection. Not only that but the initial final piece idea did not go to plan. In order for my final piece to not be lost in the white walled exhibition space it needed to be done on a bigger scale. However when experimenting with scale it became apparent the original planned final piece did not fit aesthetically with a larger scale. This unforeseen problem forced me to rethink the final piece. Through more investigative research I found a solution to the problem and subsequently I am much happier with how the outcome looks as it is.L.O.5 Plan, organise and maintain records of progress in the production of a creative projectWhile completing the project I kept an online blog where I documented and recorded any artists or influences to the project. As well as the digital blog I had a personal diary where I could take notes and record any meetings, materials or room bookings that were necessary throughout the project. In the diary I kept a day by day plan of how the project should be completed, setting weekly targets at the start of the week and ensuring anything that would need to be booked or arranged was done so at the start of the week in preparation. By keeping the said diary I was able to see clearly what ai had done and what still needed to be done. Also being able to se a physical countdown of the weeks/days left until the submission day helped greatly and I feel enabled me to complete the project and my final piece in a timely manner. During the planning process of this project I had to negotiate one to one tutorials with tutors, as well as interview dates with potential models. Studio times were also negotiated as with the projections I had to book out the photography studios. Through constant reflection and analysis I feel I have successfully managed my time throughout the project, however I did struggle with critically analysing my work without being peer assessed or having a group assessment. The project has taught me that critical analysis is essential in pushing your project forward. Although I feel I have completed everything I wanted to achieve in respect of the outcome and the theme of the project, I now know that I should’ve factored in more time for things to go wrong. This would’ve provided me with more time to explore design ideas and fashion illustrations for my final pieces, as at present I feel these are quite limited.L.O.6 Maintain records of critical analysis, reflection and evaluation to inform own learningBoth evaluation and reflection played important parts in the final project, they allowed me to understand what I could achieve practically, what ideas were simply impractical and what ideas even practically don’t work out. For example although practically in my sketchbook worked fine, on a larger scale it simply didn’t work. By reflecting upon this and evaluating on my blog, I was able to move forward and gather ideas to create the final piece I have now. By far the easiest way of evaluating and reflecting on projects can be done aesthetically. By photographing your work and uploading it to the blog, you can see what the potential audience would see if they were to view your work. Instantly you can tell if a piece is aesthetically pleasing to both you and your target audience. Not only that but it is important that when evaluating the aesthetic of your work you consider whether it fits aesthetically with your original theme. As my theme was quite open, there were no major aesthetical issues apart from personal preference and scale. Through one to one conversations with pathway tutors I successfully assessed and reflective upon any work made. This was also done on a bigger scale with group critiques. In a more informal way I evaluated and reflected upon my work with class peers, through both conversations and peer assessments.L.O.7 Use appropriate techniques and methods to communicate and present a creative project to an intended audiencePresentation wise there are only two methods in which my final piece could be presented. The most obvious would be on a mannequin, however the issue with this method is that with the one sleeve of the garment is fully embroidered onto plastic fabric, the sleeve has become slightly more heavier than the other. This causes the sleeve to hang more heavy, meaning some of the embroidered detail is lost. This could be overcome with stuffing in the sleeves, however this would then take way the transparent aspect of some parts of the sleeve. Another potential hanging method would be to have fishing wire to certain points of the shirt (such as the collar and various points of the sleeve and cuff) hung from the ceiling. This would mean that all of the embroidery detail is displayed and the shirt is fully visible. However as I have not tested this method yet I am unsure as to whether the fishing wire could successfully hold the garment without tugging it or the garment itself falling. ................
