Homecoming news - PC\|MAC

Varsity Academic Team StateOn Saturday February 8th the high school varsity academic team left at 7:30 AM and drove an hour and a half to El Reno to compete at Redlands Community College. Only seeded eighth in the tournament, we were determined. Our first game was against Corn Bible Academy, having lost to them in the past we tried our best but lost 190-170. Put in the losers bracket, now we had to win to keep playing. Our next competitor was our longtime nemesis Mulhall-Orlando. We lost to them twice in the past season and we weren’t having any more of it; we destroyed them in an exciting victory of 290-120. Continuing on, we played another close game against Paola beating them 180-170. The next game was against Kiowa, we played hard but in the end lost 220-200, yet another close game. Now beat out of the tournament we placed 4th! Having a good season and placing 4th at state gave us the opportunity to attend nationals in Washington D.C. at the end of May. Let the fund-raising begin!(Donations accepted)Lady Bronc basketballby Emma WatkinsThis basketball season was one for the books. The team definitely had their ups and downs for sure, but they managed to keep their heads up and focus on getting better as a team. The Lady Broncs placed third at The Cherokee Strip Conference tournament, which was a great accomplishment. They had a close, well fought game with Ringwood in the tournament, and won in overtime. The season sure flew by fast. Playoffs were here before we knew it. The Lady Broncs won District Champs at Timberlake and they were off to Leedey for the Regional tournament, where they concluded their season losing a tough game in the third round. I am definitely going to miss playing this sport with all my friends, but it was fun while it lasted. The team has a bright future ahead of them and I cannot wait to see their achievements. (editor’s note)As the girls’ basketball coach, I really enjoyed the group we had this year. They worked extremely hard in practice, games, and in the weight room. I am excited to see the growth in the coming years. This group of seniors will be missed, but will always have a place with this team, and will be a part of all of the success we have in the future. -Coach VaughtMeet Our Newspaper Staffby Josephine LarsenThis year our newspaper staff has been working on an article every week to get out a newspaper monthly. It’s long overdue to meet our entire staff. One fun fact about our staff is that we all attend Autry Technology Center! I am going to tell you a little bit about all of our staff members.Mr. Vaught is our Editor for the newspaper; he is also the High School girls’ basketball coach. “I’ve really enjoyed this group of kids in our class this year.” Kaylynn Brownell attends Autry for Graphic Design and she is a junior at Kremlin-Hillsdale. “I love being in newspaper because I get to advance my writing skills and learn new information about people I did not know before.”Kellie McKee attends Autry in the Health Careers class, she is also a junior. “Our team works very well together, and it’s a great environment to work in.”Josephine Larsen is a student of the Graphic Arts program and a senior at KHS. “I love having the opportunity to write about what I am passionate about within my school.”Donny Bell is in the Construction and he is a senior at Kremlin. “I like writing about sports for the newspaper class”Karter Dehdezi Is in Power Products at Autry and he is a junior. “Being in newspaper is fun!”OSSAA Recognizes KHS High School Bandby Josephine LarsenThis year the KHS High School band decided to do a photograph to illustrate that you don’t just have to choose band. Every band member wore a uniform or official dress from an organization or activity they participate in other than band. The band also held their perspective instruments in hand during the picture. There was everything from FFA, SkillsUSA, basketball, and even bowling. The photo was edited into a poster that says “KHS Band, You Don’t Have to Choose.” After the photo was completed it was posted on Facebook and began to gain traction. Then the OSSAA Facebook page posted the picture and it gained even more popularity. The KHS High School band has now been asked to attend the Basketball state games while wearing the clothing they were seen pictured in. The band will be recognized at the state games!Painted Parking Spots by Kellie McKeePainted parking spots are a big hit in many schools, and it lets each driver pick their spot for their high school years. It could help everyone express their artistic side. Washable paint can come off at the end of the year, and kids can be given the option to repaint or keep the same painting for the following school year. Though Kremlin doesn’t do this, I think the kids would really enjoy it, and it would make the school seem livelier, with the added colors. The spots would be pressure washed, and scrubbed at the end of the school year, then if they got repainted the paint left over wouldn’t matter that much. Add this to the fact there would be less arguing over who parks in what spot. If the school didn’t want to give out this opportunity for free, then paying for a spot could be an option. Promby Donnie bell Prom is coming up soon and the juniors and seniors are all very excited and are racing to the prom shops to get their dresses and suits. The date of prom is April 3rd, 2020. Prom will be held at the Enid event center in downtown Enid, and the prom is free for the Kremlin Hillsdale Juniors and seniors and free for their dates. The after prom party will be at Oakwood church in Enid, the address is 401 North Oakwood Rd, Enid OK. Kremlin NewsJohn Henke-Rose and Joseph Alcuitas have been selected finalists for the Alfalfa electric award. They have the option to either go on a trip to the capital of the U.S. and will get the chance to tour the White House, or go to a camp in Colorado. Rachel Reimer was also selected as an alternate. Why Schools Need to Include Finance Classesby Katy OrmstonEveryone needs an education, whether they like it or not, and most people get one via free public schools. The idea of school is to prepare you for college and eventually your future career and life as an adult. The thing is, they don’t equip you or get you ready for things adults deal with every day, such as taxes, balancing a check book, insurance, deposits, down payments, and some don’t even teach you how to write a proper check or letter. I understand learning about topics that could lead you to what you want to do as a future career, but why learn an overwhelming amount of information over a cell when we could use that time to learn about renting a house or a deductible. There are places that offer these classes, but it is separate from most schools, meaning you would have to sign up to take a class outside of school. It is all food for thought, and something that needs to be taken into consideration. Why leave kids in the dark when there is a solution?Chautauqua by Kellie McKeeEvery year we have new people come to the school to act out skits for our school. They have different categories every year, this year was visionary, so there were inventors, Thomas Edison came on February 6, unfortunately the people who attend Autry missed most of the program, but people say it was really good this year!
